Default Menu lag in IE

Hi,
I have made a new site, well new layout for my site it can be found here

I am having a big problem with my menu, if the user is using IE the menu has major lag, but if you veiw in firefox or Google Chrome it is fine. I have been searching the internet everywhere for an anwser but cant find one.

But one thing i found is if i put it in a straight html file it works fine, even on IE
But as soon as i add it into 68c it starts lagging.

Anyone got any ideas why?
Cheers,
Nick

Hi,
Ok, if i remove the Doctype it works fine, the menu doesnt lag at all but it removes quite a bit of styling.
If i add:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
It still lags, any ideas on what i should do from here?
Cheers,
Nick

You need to follow W3 org standards. Choose one and try to keep to it within your site if at all possible. XHTML, XHTML transitional, HTML 4.01 etc. I look at your site and it isn't what you have in your thread. It is now

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">

When you put your site into the W3 org validator, your home page now reports 82 errors. This is why several people have advised you previously to make your site compliant with a standard. It isn't just a throw away comment. Browsers in general follow standards and you are not following any. It is not so easy to help you when your code is all over the place in terms of standards. Think of it like this Nick.

You are saying to your browser that you want it to follow a set of rules so it tries and then you don't follow them. It is as simple as that. It makes the best job it can from what you have asked it to obey. I apologize if my words seem direct but try to make your code compliant and these types of problems will start to disappear - really I am try to help you.

Hi,
The menu lag was caused by something i neve even thought of. I tried removing the top of the webpage and it solved it. So i looked into it deeper and found that the header background was 4x4px and was taking the browser too long to render and causing whole page lag, but making it 24x24 it solved the problem completly.
