Is there a way to completely hide/remove image from listing when no image is uploaded?

I could make it white , but I would rather not load anything if there is no image for particular listing.

You would need to edit the template files and remove any call to nophoto.gif.

As you mentioned an easier method would be to just upload a clear single pixel image as nophoto.gif.
