Displaying parent+subcategories

I am trying to display parent+subcategories to the right of the image...

i found that another member has done this to their site here

In admin when you create a categoy you can upload an image for that category.

thanks, i've gotten as far as uploading a picture to replace the small folder.

but like that link i posted, im trying to get the same effect where the parent category is to the right of the picture and parallel at the top with the subcategories underneath.

currently its just like the folder is set up where the parent category is to the bottom right of the photo or folder, and the subcategories wrap underneath the photo...

any help is much appreciated.
