Question Help! - select package, then select the category!

Hi all,

Can anyone help me? I have the developer edition (4.1.6) and I am trying to swap step 1 with step 2 in usercheckout.php - so the user can see and select the package before they choose the category.

I have tried swaping the code from step1.tpl to step2.tpl and step1.php to step2.php (and reverse) but it wont get the packages, it just says: "Sorry, no packages have been defined.".

I'm sure this can be done, but I cant figure it out right now!!

If anyone can help me along the way I would be grateful!

Thanks,

Dave

PS. If the packages depend on the category being selected, then it wont matter as all categories can be used with all packages.

Ad packages when created are assigned to work with specific categories and therefor the logical flow is to select the category you want the ad in and then get to chose from packages defined for that category.

Yep just as Larry noted. You can't do it.

Default Done it!

Hi,

Thank you for the negative feedback

I have done it, I just navigated the user to step 2 by passing the variables in the URL (e.g. usercheckout.php?category=1&productid=1&step=2&lis tingid=0) then in step 3 where the user has to enter the item details, I made it display the categories from step 1. Then when the user submits this data the new variables are passed on to step 4.

Easy!

Dave

Warning: This won't work for people who set up their packages to work with certain categories! My packages work with all categories which is why it works.

Glad you got it sorted. I normally say anything is possible with enough will power but most of the time people don't have it.

So this is the special case of all categories sharing the same packages?

An idea on a similar theme (you often see it with directory submission systems) as an enhancement is to pass the variables from the specific category someone is in directly to step 2 or step 3 if all the packages are the same. In other words navigate to the category you wish to place an ad in and then place an ad. Not sure about cases where ads are not allowed. Worth testing out.

I would be willing to pay for this as a mod' if you (or anyone else) were to develop it Seymour. I intend to start working on a directory site next year.

Got the business directory solution already where price does not exist and you get the full functionality and templates from templatecodes too. I recently did such a site for a customer so I can only send the url privately. He wanted a very clean template - minimized single column as that is how he wants it. Private login as well only.

The development you require for a pubic site is place an ad runs from a category page, otherwise it is the standard process. I think that will not be difficult to implement providing all packages apply to all categories that accept ads.
