911 Classifieds

What made you decide to create a public safety classifieds site?

911 Classifieds is an online classified advertising service for public safety professionals. My mission is to give public safety employees (Police, Fire/Rescue, EMS) on the local, state and federal level, a valuable tool for getting rid of their unwanted equipment. As an actively working police officer, I know that working in a public safety career can be very expensive. Every day new equipment, technology and gadgets are being presented to public safety employees. Often we will buy the new gear so we can maintain that operational advantage in the field. The problem I was experiencing, and I know many other public safety professionals experience, is what are we supposed to do with the gear that has been replaced? From my experience, it typically ends up in a closet or in a box somewhere.

That is why I created 911 Classifieds - police/fire/rescue/EMS personnel no longer have to rely on the break room bulletin board, or just word of mouth to find someone to buy their used equipment. Now they can use this classified ad service to sell it to local professionals just like them! New recruits and veterans alike, chances are someone is looking to buy the gear that you’re looking to sell. Whether it’s used duty gear, unused gear, vehicles, fire/rescue tools, extra medical supplies, training equipment, or anything else you use in your public safety job, you can advertise it on 911 Classifieds. I hope you will find 911 Classifieds a useful service!

What made you choose 68 Classifieds?

I chose 68 Classifieds because of its overall value. I spent two months comparing classified ad script, trying to find the one that would give me the most for my investment. I had a lengthy list of requirements of what I wanted my site to be able to do, and also did not have a huge budget to tend with. When I saw all that 68C had to offer for around $200, I knew I had to give it a try. I have not been disappointed!

Also, I do want to point out the two primary benefits I have experienced with the 68 Classifieds script: 1) it is very customizable, and 2) the customer support. I have used the forums and contacted 68C support many times, and have always promptly received the assistance I need.

Are you using any modules with your site?

I have purchased several modules for my site. Not all of them are currently in use but will be eventually. They are: Newsletter, Scam Filter, Ad Reporting, Sitemap, US Zip Code, Statistics, Maintenance, Civ’s Similar Listings, SEO Mod, and Maffo Location System.

Any additional details you would like to share?

Anyone who visits my 911 Classifieds site will notice there is NO commercial advertising present. One of my goals in creating the site was to stay true to the feel of the typical Sunday paper classified section. I want users to be able to go to my site and get directly to the items they’re looking for, without being bombarded by flashy ads from retailers. I also will not allow commercial or retail ads to be posted within the classified listings. It’s all part of my effort to keep the site true to form - person to person classified ads and private sales only.
