How do I automatically and legally get a feed to my classifieds site to fill it with new classifieds so that I get current listings for cars, real estate, etc. from the major classifieds sites. WHich major classifieds sites allow this? Are there any script /modules , etc. that makes this possible? I would greatly appreciate your help.

Since no 2 sites are the same this can be a very complex issue. Ive contemplated making a module to do this but even a module would require significant understanding and operator knowledge to configue and to be honest most people who have asked me about this just dont have the understanding.
So, with the above in mind I have tabled any sort of module and I custom code any sort of import. On a 68C site, ads are associated with a registered user. So the first question you need to ask yourself is this. If you are importing ads from other sites, what ad owner are they going to be associated with? Many sites offer rss feeds of their ads but dont give full ad owner details and even if they did you would have to ad the owner to your site to associate the ad to them. Then you have the question about how are your site visitors going to get in touch with the ad owner if they have question? I know people who place ads on my sites dont make their e-mails public and I am sure most others are the same. The next thing you have to ask yourself is even if you do get ads on your site from other sites, why would I as a web surfer goto your site? I likely wont be able to contact the owner to get aditional details and depending on how much efort you put into importing ads, the ads may not even be current. So, at the end of the day, unless you have a relationship with a dealer/broker or other ad site where you can absorb ads and their owner details your really nothing more than a glorified link whore site. Now, if your looking simply to get high searche engine placement and a lot of trafic from the search engines that may work. BUT I can just about gaurante you will not have any return visitors nor will you build a client base of people who advertise with you regularly.

That's OK. I am looking to kick start the site so that a visitor will see lots of relevant ads. I am focused on a single geographic area, so I would need to filter the ads by the area. As long as visitors can find ads with some kind of contact information, no matter how minimal it is, that would be OK. I can see that it will take a long time to have a site full of ads, and this would be very helpful. > if your looking simply to get high searche engine placement and a lot of trafic from the search engines that may work. But I am not sure I understand why visitors would not return. |

I gues you can use the RSS feed burner that mods.auscity.com has developped to put anywhere on your website and can display RSS feeds from other websites (like craigslist for example).
You just have to make sure that the mod is going to work for your version of 68classifieds so before you purchase first ask. They have great support by the way and have helped me with RSS mod. And the price for this mod if very reasonable too. If you are interested check out http://www.mods.auscity.com/ - their website. Good luck
