I recently purchased 68 Classifieds and have been attempting to modify the design myself. I am able to muddle through most of it and I am beginning to understand Smarty and how it's implemented in 68 Classifieds. I am still working on the design but for now I have three questions.
1. For the life of my I can't find where the "Categories" link to category.php is originating from. I don't see it in home.tpl or browse.tpl. You can see what I am referring to here: The All Points Bulletin The offending link is formatted in light blue and above the table with the heading "Browse Categories." I have added {debug} to my layout.tpl, but still can't seem to find where this link is originating from. (I've removed the debug statement, but let me know if you want me to put it back in.) 2. I am self taught and relatively new to this, but from what I have learned its seems like layout is best accomplished not using tables. To that end, I formated the sidebars and middle content area using div tags and not using a table layout. I retained the table to display Browse Catagories because it seems appropriate to use a table in this instance. Will laying out the sidebars and content using divs and floats instead of table rows come back to bite me later on? Not sure if there was a particular reason a table layout was used that is just not obvious to me now. 3. Is there something that compares the available payment providers to eachother in terms of cost, features, etc? I am new to this so please go easy on my design skills and me if my questions are glaringly simplistic |

First of all. Please put your 68C version, then designer or developer and your template (default, nu style, etc) into your signature. It helps us to help you.
1. This is the breadcrumb. It is generated in your template folder - categories/breadcrumb.tpl 2. Why would it come back to bite you if you have done it properly using valid xhtml and css - you should always validate your site using this The W3C Markup Validation Service . Getting rid of errors means you are less likely to encounter problems. A quick check shows you only have a few errors to deal with. You have done well if it is your first attempt but do get rid of those errors. 3. The internet is full of comparisons. At the end of the day it depends on many things. Paypal is popular as it scales, it is easy to set up, you don't need to be a pro to use it but it is relatively expensive. Other gateways and merchant accounts tend to be more expensive unless you have volume sales. |

Thank you for your reply.
I will include the additional information regarding version, etc., in my signature. Sorry for the oversight. Not that it probably matters now, but I have version 4.1.2, Developer edition (I suffer from delusions of grandeur LOL). 1. Ah...so its the breadcrumb. Damn carbs always causing me problems. Thanks! 2. I don't know why or how it would come back to bite me. On the off chance there was a reason for using tables that is not clear to me given my limited experience then I'd prefer to know now then proceed further. May seem like a silly question, but I'd rather ask a potentially silly question now that regret not asking it later. I am still working on the layout, and will correct any errors. Thanks for checking and bringing it to my attention! 3. Thanks for input regarding payment providers. Have a good weekend! |
