Upload Category list from a CSV file

I have a huge catgory and sub category list from my client and instead of adding them one by one is there anyway to upload a csv file directly into the sql database so the sub categories get put into the correct category?

I've done it.

If anyone wants an excel template and some more info let me know.

All i did was to use formulas in excel and use the "insert into" sql statement and then exported the cell data to a sql file.

I then imported the sql file into the database and it worked.

If you have huge category lists like I do then this is fantastic.

Hi Guys

I haven't used it for a while but it is how I setup my first site with the software

You only need to fill in the following columns

id, parent_id, name, description, image, allowads, display cOrder, cKeywords, cPromo, cLink

Then all you do is scroll to column R and select all the rows you require, then ctrl+c (copy) or right click and copy then paste into the "Run SQL query" and click go and they will import all the Categories for you.

I have used unique category ids for my top level categories as to make them easier to edit in the future.

I have left my categories in there for example purposes only, please use your own categories.
