I have a huge catgory and sub category list from my client and instead of adding them one by one is there anyway to upload a csv file directly into the sql database so the sub categories get put into the correct category?

I think I deserve a coffee!
I've done it. If anyone wants an excel template and some more info let me know. All i did was to use formulas in excel and use the "insert into" sql statement and then exported the cell data to a sql file. I then imported the sql file into the database and it worked. If you have huge category lists like I do then this is fantastic. |

That's cool! If you could post the small word, big picture guide for dummies it would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Guys
I haven't used it for a while but it is how I setup my first site with the software You only need to fill in the following columns id, parent_id, name, description, image, allowads, display cOrder, cKeywords, cPromo, cLink Then all you do is scroll to column R and select all the rows you require, then ctrl+c (copy) or right click and copy then paste into the "Run SQL query" and click go and they will import all the Categories for you. I have used unique category ids for my top level categories as to make them easier to edit in the future. I have left my categories in there for example purposes only, please use your own categories. Best regards Stuart |
