Default Searchable Extra Fields

Hi,

I have added some extra fields and made them searchable but when I enter the Search page I only get the standard fields to search on.

I can place an Ad OK and see the extra fields in the listing but I just can't see them on the search screen.

Is there something else I need to do ?

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

On the search page the extra fields do not display until you first select a category. After you have selected the category they should then display at the bottom of the form.

I selected the category but the extra fields do not show up. Also if I search using the category it is a very slow search (especially as I have only 5 ads for testing), if I leave the category search field alone and say just put in a price range it is very quick.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Paul

Default A further sytmptom

Hi,

When I do select a category on the search screen and not hit the search button but just wait the following error pops up.

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/paulb/public_html/horseads/ajax.php on line 130

It seems to be having a problem finding the extra fields for my categories. I am not using any subcategories, my categories are children of the highest level parent.

Thanks Paul

Could you post a link? It might help us discover the problem.

ajax.php is used to load the extra fields, and if it is generating an error that probably explains why they are not being displayed. This is the first I've heard of this problem with the script and am not getting it at my site.

1. Please be sure all files are uploaded, time and time again we see strange errors due to a corrupted file or a missing file, or a file with nothing in it (0bytes).

2. Try and upload all files again.

3. Check your category names, as well as those for the extra fields and see if it is possible that a character like ' or " might be present. If so try renaming these.

4. Try recreating the extra fields and or categories.

Other than this, there isn't much I can suggest. Without seeing it via link.

Are you using a different language file other than English?

If so can you make sure you convert special characters to their html equivalants.

Default Checked all and reinstalled but still not working

Hi,

I am using using the English language file (its the only language I know).

I have done fresh install and now I have two versions doing exactly the same thing.

I have recreated all categories and fields and switched to default template but the problem remains.

You can see one version I have installed here:

www.gohorse.com.au/horseads

Thanks
Paul

The URL is now www.gohorsesales.com.au. Should work soon once the DNS propogates.

Otherwise try www.gohorse.com.au/gohorsesales

Thanks

Exclamation Still not resolved

Hi,

Does anybody have any ideas on where I should go with this problem ?

I have tried many things but not sure where to go next. I still do not get the extra fields displayed on the search page when I select a category.

Hi Paul,

I am not sure if this will fix it but can you open the search.tpl.php template file and locate this line:
cp.set_debug(false);

Then replace with:

cp.set_debug(true);

After that, save and upload and when you try to search it shold give a few javascript alerts on what is going on.
