Default Google indexing unused templates

From looking at the pages Google has crawled on one of my sites, it seems to be crawling template files that I am not using, as in it shows pages from template 'A' with vehicle headings, instead of the template that I am actually using.

I have now deleted the templates that I am not using, and will be copying the files that I am using to default template tonight, but obviously anyone looking up the site address from google is not looking at the correct homepage and will probably go away again pretty quickly.

I am going to try and contact google to get them to clear the files from their cache, but I doubt anything will happen in the near future. I just hope that they try to crawl the pages again and update the records. For people building a site it may be worth removing unused templates before the site is transfered to a server that gogle has access to!!

Any other ideas what I can do would be gratefully received!!
Feel free to move this if another forum is thought to be better.

I assume you mean Google has an inactive template in its cache? If so, the only reason that could happen is if their spider happened to be crawling you when you had that template active.

You can submit a removal request here but I don't recommend it - if I were you I would just wait until the next time Google updates their cache.

I did go onto google and try to remove just the cache, but as the page )in my case browse categories) is still active it will not do it.

It has crawled since, but the old cached pages from March to June are still on there and showing as trucks, but with the colour changes that I made a couple of days ago.

If I had been more on the ball I would have stuck a no follow or something on when I first started building it, but thats me not being quick enough!!

Yeah I feel your pain as I've had the same thing happen before - not much to safely do about it though except wait for Google to update their cache. Thankfully, it is rare for people to find you through Google's cache - 99% of your visitors will just click right through from the SERPS.
