Login problem?

all of a sudden (at least i think so) I am seeing this problem...

1. my site is set to be offline...
2. I have two browser windows open...
- one pointed to the admin area
- one pointed to my site (offline)
3. when i log in to the admin with my user name and password... I toggle over to the offline site and see that I am logged in ... even though it is set to offline...

Now I am not sure if this related to the following change I made yesterday,

Is this a problem or is this the way it should work?

In other words, as soon as I login in the admin area, it displays or indicates I am logged in on the offline site... I can't logoff... only if I put the site back online....

When you log into admin your are logged into the sites front end as well since both sides use the same cookie/session ID as far as I can tell.

Yes that is correct both the admin and frontend use the same user details.
