Default Upgrade process ??

I am about to upgrade to the latest version, but want suggestions on the best way to accomplish this without having problems, as I did with the last upgrade...

Is there a process or set of steps to follow that will insure that I have no problems????

As far as mods.... If I made mods, then I have to redo them???? for example in the templates area (default)...

any suggestion would be greatly appreciated...

Dont upgrade your live site to the beta if thats what your referring to.

As far as other upgrades, what I do is I print off the list of files that have changed. I go over the ones that changed and makes notes if I had made any changes to them.

If you made changes to any files that are being replaced you have to make the same changes to the new files.

uload the new files and then upload the whole install directory and its contents. Point the web browser to the /install directory and chose upgrade from the installation script so any database changes are made.

Remove install dir and you should be set.

Talking Good Advice

Before upgrading, make sure you have a complete backup just in case you need to roll back.

Also use a side-by-side editing package - such as Beyond Compare - to edit your files. you can point it at your old files and your new updated files and it will tell you exactly which files are different and need editing. It also highlights the areas of the files which are different and makes it much faster to update your site.

Good Luck

okay...????? below is the message that appears on "My Account" page:
Quote:

Version 3.0.15 is now released.

This release has a few bugs fixed and includes new init.php files which have different license restrictions applied.

It is recommended that everyone upgrade because of the temporary init files that where released with the server crash.

You can download this release from our member section.
Now is this beta?????? Confused....

Thanks for the other advice though... it is nice to see how others handle upgrades...

No this is not the beta. The beta version is 3.1 being fine tuned. You want to download 3.0.15 for now.

Yes that is correct. v3.1 is released just for users who wish to test out the new features. V3.0.15 is the latest stable release.

Default Upgrade - files that changed

Can someone please confirm, that the following are the files that changed for the v3.0.15 upgrade:

Quote:
administration/browselistings.php
administration/includes/init.php
administration/packages.php
includes/init.php
reviews.php
searchresults.php
thanks.php
usermodifylisting.php
If so, than if I did not modify any of the above files, I should be good to go as far as just doing a straight upgrade without worrying about my mods to files not listed above...

OOOPS>>.. I think I have this wrong... I still have to upload everything in the \upload directory and then over write my mods - over the updated files....

I am sure I am making this a bigger deal than it really is, but my last upgrade did not go well and I am a little gun shy...

In the download, there is a file called changelog.txt. This file will show you that the following files have changed since the last release.

-------------------------------------
Change Log V3.0.15
-------------------------------------

administration/browselistings.php
administration/includes/init.php
administration/packages.php
includes/init.php
reviews.php
searchresults.php
thanks.php
usermodifylisting.php

Keep in mind the above list are the files that changed from 3.0.14 to 3.0.15, if you are jumping from 3.0.9 to 3.0.15 for example there will be more files and you will need to upload the files in each of the sections outlining what changed between your current level and your new level.

If you didnt make changes to any of the files in the changed file list, then simply upload the above files to ther proper directory overwriting the old ones (its always a good idea to have a full site backup prior to an upgrade).

Next, upload the /install directory and its contents.

point a browser to yoursite/install/ and chose the upgrade option. This will make any necessary database changes that may have occured from one version to the next.

Delete the /install directory and you should be good to go.

Okay... I did exactly what you said... at least as I understood...
I uploaded the above listed files ONLY from the upgrade files received from 68...
I then uploaded the \install directory and ran \buckeye-classifieds.com\install
I selected Upgrade.... , then selected or indicated that I was upgradeding from a version over 3.0...
it appeared to work fine and then I was instructed to delete the install directory, which i did...
now when I go to my admin area and sign in i get the following error!!!!
