Some questions

I'm looking at different systems and looks like 68C is the frontrunner at the moment.

    Some questions I have
How easy is it to customize the ff
having a listing of ads in the home page instead of browse by category (first 3 are randomized featured ads, the rest newest ad)
search results shows the featured ads (first) if there are any

Are extra fields per category level? e.g. car category will have a make field (searchable) and when searching in this category, this field will be displayed?

Are there ad types? i.e. buy, sell, swap

    Are these bugs?

in default theme 68 Classifieds, the color of results are not alternate.
    image are not resized uniformly.

How easy to customize depends upon your skill with css and html - other templates are available (see my signature for templates and modules which may fit your need). In general you can make changes easily but it is relative.

Yes- a minor customisation to one template file. Very easy to do with the horizontal listings plugins available.
Yes - a selection within the admin control panel
Yes - exrafields can be assigned specifically to different groups of categories or to a single category.

Are there ad types? i.e. buy, sell, swap - don't understand the question. They sound like categories to me or extrafields that you would assign.

Are there bugs? - how can this question be answered. All software of any complexity will have minor errors but over time they are reduced to insignificance which is where 68C is at. The other thing to remember is that when bugs are discovered they get fixed. A bug in my system may not be in your system aswell because it often depends upon how the system is set up. In general I would not worry about bugs. 1000's of systems run successfully.

You can scale images as you please. However, what ever you specify, those placing ads will do different. Yuo tell them that your site is better with portrait photos and damn sure htey will enter landscape. If you leave it free proportions as in the demo then that is what you will get. A mix of portrait and landscape.

Color of results - no- why would they be? The color denotes bold or featured ads.

i strongly suggest you do your home work before spending any money on 68classifieds system
the reason i say this is
if you are only new to this system {like i am} then you will be depending on people here to help you
the thing you will find when you ask a question for help here is that they reply back to you in lingo that makes sence to them but dont to you,
i think they think that if you buy this system then you should already know about it hence the reason for there answers,,,or they re-direct you to templates or ,mods that they want to sell you from there own personal site etc,

i suggest you take a good look at the support forums to see if it suits you to buy here as the forums are not really that active and the people who are active are not noob helper friendly.

    just my opinion on it.

What part of the response did you not understand so you can be helped further? Before you go around making what are negative comments with no foundation, it would be nice if you got factual and gave some good examples. In the meantime I would like to draw your attention to this part of the forum

    Testimonials - 68 Classifieds Forums

But all the posters are wrong aren't they. We all give our help on this forum for free but some people can't be helped. For the customer; 68C, TemplateCodes, MikennTosh, Larry; etc all go the extra mile. You my friend are just out of whack with your comments and will not endear yourself to anyone. I even phoned you at my expense with an international call to help you a few weeks back. Looking at your posts you did not get your ducks lined in a row did you? You did not get a developer first to do the complicated things you want to do. No script is going to offer those things out of the box. It is you that have put your very specific requirements onto the 68C script to do what you need but you are not willing to take the responsibility of not having done your due diligence. Either having the skill needed to tune 68C to those requirements or being able to hire it. The bottom line is this. Read the literature. Read the forum. It is pretty clear that if you wish to change the look or add additional functionality to the product then you will need some basic html, css, smarty or php skills to achieve it. Even if they are minimal you can do a lot.

I somehow agree with greg007. You definitely won't use 68c out of the box because the template included are not appealing, to put it mildly. So you either know php/html/css or have money to buy templates/hire someone to customize it for you.
  6. michael Just get on with it!

Greg, I don't post here very much these days but I still scan the forums occasionally to see what's new. Your post however couldn't be ignored.

The support at 68C via the ticketing system and documentation is excellent. As for support here at the forums, well as David has said you're not going to endear yourself to anyone with a snotty attitude like that. The forums have got a bit quieter but I suspect that's because the product is so solid that there few, if any, genuine concerns remaining. Most queries can be resolved by using the search function - an innovative idea that may have passed you by along with the proper use of grammar, punctuation and manners!

Nobody here assumes that you will already know about the 68C system before you buy it but hey, we ARE posting in the Pre-Sales Questions section of the forum and there IS a demo site you can check out prior to purchase - what more do you want?

And, as already stated, if you don't already have at least some basic html, css, smarty or php skills then why on earth would you be considering an online business start-up?!

Lastly, if you want "noob friendly", unpaid support from 68C users at a community forum like this one - support by the way which many of us have been happy to offer according to our various abilities - then try being a little friendlier yourself.

    Rant over.

so what i said is correct.
replys are for the benefit of the poster meaning ,if i wanted to have youtube vids added to a site then ask for help they reply like we know it all and if we dont know it all then comes the punch line.o and if you want a plugin come to my site il sell you 1,

and yes david you did ring me 1 night back in time and il say to you now what i said back then
you are 1 of the very very few active on this site but you are also 1 of the few who want people to buy your products at every chance you get,

i would recomend people have a good look around the net for software to use where people are willing to help the people who dont really know to much about such alterations instead of trying to get money from them by way of buisness or way of selling them plugins etc,

    my taughts excatly. well done
  9. seymourjames All Hands On Deck

That makes me a businessman. Clearly, you are not but you wish to be. You dream but do not appreciate what it takes. It takes investment (money or skill and preferably both). It doesn't just happen.

Yes templates, plugins and modules are for sale to help meet people's requirements. it is called enhancement. That is why these products exist. No market - no product. They help even seasoned developers avoid the time needed to build the enhanced functionality they are looking for. Does that make sense to you? A good PHP developer could write the 68C script for themselves given a year or more but they are not going to do it - it would not be economic for them to do so when they can buy it.

Now your 'buyer's remorse' aside, I will give you a good damn ignoring too as I have a business to run.

@greg007 Why so hostile? Its a default template, a starting point for most. Some are fine with it while others buy knowing they will replace that template with something else. I for one, when I purchased back in 2004 or 2005, didn't want my site to have the same look as all the others, and I knew that going in. I worked hard, learned PHP/HTML/CSS as I couldn't afford to hire a designer and a PHP developer. I did pay where my skillset didn't match my desires, as that is a given when you do any kind of website. In the end, how successful your site is directly relates to how much work you put into it and how far you are willing to go to make it succeed.

If you want features that you can't make, you'll have to pay somebody for it or learn how to do it. If you come to the forum and tell people how to reply and how not to reply you won't likely get much help. If you come and ask specific and manageable requests people will go the extra mile and explain how you can do it or where you might be able to purchase it. The forums are not here as a free source to do your work for you. Come with a nice attitude, some patience, and the will to get your hands a little dirty and you will find that you will get the "help" you need.

it seems the difference between me and you here is im not out to make money at every single chance i get.

I'll tell you that David is NOT out to make money at every chance he gets, but is more than willing to donate his time on this forum to help people out. If he happens to sell some of his product while doing so, I wish him all the best, as he deserves to make a small profit for his enormous efforts on this forum as well as maintaining his own business.

David, Larry, Mike, John and Blair have responded to my posts in this forum promptly. I very much appreciate the tips and direction of their responses, as they have been very helpful at steering me in the right direction.
  13. Mike-N-Tosh Developer & Moderator

It would seem that you don't have the knowledge for something like this example as it requires lots of research, php, (X)HTML & smarty logic, not to mention the knowledge of how to incorporate it all into 68 Classifieds systems.

The bottom line here is there is NOT a simple, "Oh just drop this code in the template file and voila!" type of answer. If you were to hire a developer to accomplish this for you, it would most likely run you a few hundred dollars. As opposed to, "o and if you want a plugin come to my site il sell you 1" at a mere $30.00 which this module sells for. I have been asked several times on sites that I have been hired to customize to their specifications to incorporate youtube video. Would I be honest with my clients if I told them, I can do that for $200 and NOT tell them that they could just buy the already available $30.00 YouTube module by Techconxx???

According to your opinion, we should instead of pointing out to you that this has already been developed and available for purchase at the low price of $30.00 we are supposed to lead you through exactly how to learn the module system of 68 Classifieds (already in the online documentation), teach you how to program in php including how to make the class libraries, teach you to understand the google API system of how to incorporate their youtube php & javascript library classes into your website, how to code (X)HTML to make the templates to use the module data that the php files output and do this all in the terms that you can understand so that we don't act like "we know it all." And do it all for free as the support that we all provide on here is free donated time.

    Do you honestly believe this?
