Hello, I was wondering if "68 classifieds" have a feature that would let the seller's open up a store with a subdomain. Then the seller would Automatically have a subdomain for his/her page. For Example: Let's say a user called "ABC" wanted to register as a seller and open up a store. Can 68 Classifieds provide an automated tool that creates a subdomain for the user ABC? Resulting to abc.mysite.com (as his/her store page). I'm looking for a script/software that would give me the same options that this site offers Dikani: Online Shopping in Kuwait, Create your own shop, sell online. It might display in another language, you can change it into english. You'll see the tab "Open a shop", that's what I exactly want. Is this possible with 68 classifieds? Hope I was clear, sorry about my english. Thank you in advance.
Nope. Subdomains and how they are handled is more of a server function and way beyond the scope of 68C. Also just to add the 68C seller store is nothing more than an image and text about the seller it doesnt actually offer any sort of purchasing options, inventory etc for the seller. That once again is beyond what 68C is designed for.
Is there a way to find out which software/script that is able to do such thing? Thanks for your previous reply, much appreciated.
google? I think your gonna be pretty hard pressed since as I mentioned subdomains are generally specific to the server and how it is set up to manage them.
Seller store on a subdomain is something i think 68c should look into, sure the administrator would have to make the subdomain but you could charge for having it. Nick
I wish that would happen. Cause if it did, then I'd definately purchase the product, Looks good and affordable. Could someone actually work on that?
That is not in our current plans. So many servers are set up differently that it would probably not be something easy you can just roll out.
mmm, you're right. Then a guide on how to modify it is more helpful, ain't i right? If that's the case then am hoping to see a guide up soon .
A guide on how to modify what? Modifications are as varied as the people who use the script, creating a guide on how to modify the script would be worthless for people who dont know PHP unless it addressed their specific modification. Its not practical to create a guide showing people how to modify the site with specifics because everyones desired mod is different. The best way to modify your site at the script level is to learn PHP or hire someone to do it for you. Keep in mind that not all modifications are practcal/doable. In the case of creating subdomains, thats usually something someone does via their servers web hosting control panel. This is likely not something you are going to be able to tie an external script into unless you have a dedicated server under your full control (have you priced these??) and even then it will likely involve an intimate knowledge of the servers control scripts and as Eric said they vary from host to host.
yeah, I understand all what your saying. but what could be helpful is the stuff that we should google or look into. I've been a Java Programmer for about 2 years now, pretty experienced but I've never worked with web applications that's why am kinda lost in my track. Though am willing to learn PHP but I just wanna understand the concepts of making such thing automated, or semi automated. or maybe It could be something like creating a folder in the domain and make it LOOK like a subdomain in the address bar. Get what I mean? But all in all, i think it's SORT OF doable, like everyone could volunteer in the developing of such script and every user from his/her side should gather info and convert it into doable code, do you get what I mean? It's not something easy to do, but everyone starts from scratch. We could have different scripts for each major host. Though am not an expert in server-side codes nor this applications, but it would be nice to work on such thing, even if it's HALF-doable.
Im sure something could be created but once again from the 68C developer standpoint, how many people would this benefit? For how many people is this a make or break design decision? I can understand that for you this is a highly desirable feature but for the thousands of other users it is not. When developing software features get added that appeal to the majority and as far as I can tell this isnt one of them. So the question then becomes, how can the developer justify the time spent creating something like this? Whats the return on investment? What I recommend you do is simply have people create their user store and contact you requesting a subdomain, you log into your web hosting interface and manually create it and a redirection of that subdomain to their user store on your 68C site.
There is a way to have a store I saw this thread and thought I would answer. I remember researching the 68 classifieds software and cam across a classified fishing shop website that uses the software and he had a few different stores on his site. I will have to get back with the details if I can find the original site then post it for people to see.
Seller store sample Hi, I would like to see a website that has seller stores so I could see what it is and how it works exactly before I buy it, so if someone could post their url it would be appreciated.
My store on my classifieds site Bear in mind two things: My site is running the legacy 68 Classifieds v3.1.10 My store display is modified, because I only offer it to business users -Mike
