What version of 68 Classifieds are you running?
    v4.1.10 & 4.2 (testing)
    What template are you using?
    Custom

Please describe in detail the issue you are having:
When a user currently joins the user themselves are sent a validation email and a welcome email.

The admin however is sent nothing. I am trying to monitor the growth rate since launch but cannot be sat at my PC all day and would prefer to just receive an email (or a BCC) of the emails the user is sent. The problem is I cannot see how or where I might achieve this...

Additionally, the PM's can be created, sent to each other and the admin can monitor from within the admin area. However I have noticed that if a PM is deleted byt he user, the admin no longer has a record either...
I have had complaints about one or two members being abusive etc but this was after the messages had been deleted.

So is it also possible to email a copy of the message to the admin? This way there is a track record of what had been said, where and by whom.

The other added benefit is that if a user registered but did not activate their account I can send them the original email as a reminder...

    Kindest regards,

    Tom.

Why would you just not monitor your site on a daily basis even if it is growing fast? What could you possibly gain by receiving these emails on new joining members on a minute by minute basis? To be frank this seems like a waste of time to implement, will probably require core code changes (support and upgrade becomes more difficult) and does nothing to further your business.

I think it would be totally unethical and indeed may be illegal in many jurisdictions to snoop on peoples private messages or emails. In many countries it is illegal for even regular government agencies to do that without a warrant including the one you live in Tom. If people have received abusive emails or messages it is their duty to keep them and supply them to you if minor so you can ban the sender or a competent authority if it is a serious matter. PM means private message.

    Hi David,

The new user emails for me is an informative one. I then have a track record. Its not that there is anything to gain or lose from it, its just it would make my life easier
Plus if someone was creating multiple accounts or a spam/fraud account it would be easier to spot than sifting through a long list where it is easily missed. As an example if you had 100 sign ups a day, the chances ofyou keeping up with it if your away for 3 days or anything are low. Then the chances of spotting a fake account within that bunch is lower.
But for me it would be a convenience thing.

With regards to the private messages, that unethical factor has already been overstepped then ? The mere fact you can see the messages within the admin console is testament to this.

Despite this though user agreements and privacy policies are there for a reason. They are the terms on which a person may use your service and by using your service they are agreeing to your terms.
So as long as you have stated that it happens, there is nothing illegal about it. Over here the ISP's, government already record every phone call, have the ability to read your email when and as they please and soon want to have access to your browsing history too. I mean heck the employment offices can have full access to your bank account details, spending habits transaction history etc anytime they want, and that is without your knowledge or a warrant.

Forme it has nothing to do with snooping in and reading everything, but if someone has been accused of doing something or something happens, the proof is still there, instead of it having been deleted and its their word against the others and me in the middle. The site may only be a portal but it is still held to blame so im simply looking to look after the site.

I know what you mean though David, if someone gets abusive emails, PM's beaten by her busband, bullied, shot etc you are 'Meant' to report it. But the reality is that only a small percentage of people do because they think they wont be listened to or they dont matter. And in a large number of cases this boils down to no, or a lack of evidence. I know ive been on the receiving end for many years, well was until I got wise.

    Kindest regards,

    Tom.

Obviously my motherland has become an Orwellian state in less than 10 years. I think you proceed as you please. I think trying to use email to find fake posters is pointless. Just delete them from your admin panel once a day.

PM: I have no further comment to make. That is my opinion.

    Like you wouldnt believe David...

Do you know they are (and yes I agree litter is bad and needs removing) giving people fines for flicking the ash of their cigarettes onto the street....

Ban smoking in cafe's restaurants etc fine. in places of work so you have to go onto the street, ok thats fine. But to then to fine someone for flicking ash lol. The freedom to choose has definately gone

Anyway, the ability to read the PMS is already there int he admin area. To stop that you would need to disable the PM system which is contradictory to what it is there to achieve. Additionally, I am a firm believer that if you dont have anything to hide you need not worry. Unless its your emails for personal or work purposes in which case its a different matter.

But you wouldnt use the PMS on a classified site to conduct personal affairs now would you, or discuss confidential business matters...

And again, its not for me to monitor. Its there if a case ever arose which required for me to take a look at the records to see if a claim is true or false.

    Kind regards,

    Tom.

Now you know some of the reasons I left.and would never return . It was kind of predictable but it is happening here too and perhaps it is time to move on again.

I am not a lawyer but I actually think the PM system should be a facility which can be disabled as a site owner choice and replaced with normal email contact forms. It can be disabled in the admin panel (just saw that) and will automatically use the normal email contact forms if you don't wish to explain in your terms and conditions..

You know they say that Rhea is nice at this time of year.
And very quiet all year round with no traffic, or anything

Rhea? Rhea is the mother of Gods and is Greek. Seem to remember it is one of the moons of Saturn too.

Big brother would struggle to get CCTV to transmit from up there though you have to admit

Moving this thread to a new home. Best you post again if you are looking for a technical solution which I still believe is pointless. Spam is a way of life if you own a high traffic site.

To me this looks like email or communications interception and I would be very careful as to if this functionality when used were legal at all.

The Interception of Communications Act 1985 (IoCA)
Secrecy of correspondence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lets put it this way. If I thought someone other than a law enforcement agency (and with just grounds) was monitoring or had access to my email I would sue them.
  13. T0m1 Customer

I see where your coming from, but its not being intercepted as its being sent at the source.

Plus its not emails its a message and lastly it would be (and already is for me) stated in the terms and privacy that PMS are monitored to ensure the users safety and conformance with the rules of the site.

This besides then, as there appears no problem with the displaying of PMS via the admin console (which is easier to hack than a secured mail server) would it then not be possible to write the info to 2 seperate tables at once, so the admin sees the admin copy as it were and the user has the original.
  14. seymourjames All Hands On Deck

Interfering with email by intercepting it at any point is clearly going to get a site owner in trouble or at least there is great potential to get in trouble. Doesn't matter if it is just after the submit button was pressed or anywhere en route. Read the law in just those two snippets and google it for more. It is pretty clear isn't it even if you are not a lawyer what the law is intending to stop. I don't have difficulty understanding it.

As for PMs its perhaps an open question but I bet it would be considered illegal in many countries for a 3rd party to be reading them. I do not implement PMs at all myself and if I did I would use a big sign informing people that their communications are not confidential or private, can be viewed by the admin (private being a misnomer) and I am not responsible for what people send via the private messaging system (libel).

You may like to reflect on why you see yourself above this snippet below which is enshrined in most countries national laws. I really think you have got it wrong. You should not be opening PMs period or intercepting emails. Users are responsible for furnishing inappropriate emails or messages.

Article 12 Declaration of Human Rights:
No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.
