i didn't realise this was such a raw nerve but Mike your suggestion is precisely what should be able to be done -

Eric's absence from the thread so far is interesting

The membership conversation has been hashed over and over and I have commented on it before as well. For everyone who wants it to work a certain way there is someone else who wants it to work a different way. While making the functionality one person suggest work with another persons suggestion is sometimes doable, other times it requires a whole different methodology and programmatic approach as to be in essence a whole different system.

Even in V3 when it was implemented no one every really took the time to understand it, they would buy the software thinking it was going to work the way they wanted it to and when it didnt they were disappointed.

I think people forget sometimes that they are paying $100 or $200 dollars for this piece of kit. You can buy the developers edition so you can get it do pretty much what you want it do. Its easy to say 'this should be standard' or 'this shouldnt be too difficult'. Like I say, simply consider the price of script and the 1000's of man hours that have gone into it. Whether the system has bulk listings or not, you are getting far more than you are paying for. Its also easy to say 'other systems come with this'. Have these systems been tested? Do they work exactly how they are supposed to? Is the coding efficient? Is there support? Does their script offer the everything else the 68 script does with the same level of support and at the same price?

Eric doesn't have any obligation to implant any additional items into this software. I believe the 100 or 200 dollars that you paid is well worth the software with or without the membership. I think if eric did add memberships in the future for version 4 it should be a paid module.

Eric has put a lot of hard work into this software, which some of you take for granted. If any of you have the developer edition just take a look at some of the .php files and look at all of the coding it takes for just 1 of the many pages...

And yes, maffo hit it on the spot. He's a programmer himself and he knows exactly what kind of work has been put into this software.

I understand some of you "have to have" memberships for your classifieds software. I can only suggest version 3.1, or wait it out until something happens with version 4- whether that be a outside programmer that makes a membership module and sells it or it gets programed in. You can always try the others out, but I can guarantee you there will be something in that software that it doesn't have that you'll also want.

Please, do not misinterpret my posts. I am in no way, shape or form knocking 68 Classifieds and especially it's hard working developers!

I am however taking the opportunity to once again voice my opinion about a feature that seems to be a very desired feature by many. Especially as it makes a whole lot of sense to the type of business that is selling classified ads.

    Thanks,
    -Mike

I didn't misinterpret your post. I agree with your posts.

I think if you really want memberships in your classifieds I think the best way would be to make a new post, and write up how you think it should work, and then find out how many other people would want this module, who are willing to pay x amount of money for it. Depending on how many people want it - everyone could pitch in to have it developed.
X-cart does this very same thing on their forums. So many people pitch in to have the the addon/module developed, x-cart team writes the script up, sends the code to the buyers, and then sells it on their website.

    Hey, it's an idea..
  7. michael Just get on with it!

    And a good one.

    funny about that !!!

i don't see anyone arguing that as it stands it is not a good product and is well programmed and worth the $$ - i am not saying this - what i am peeved at is that the memberships which were in when i bought it originally were remove with the upgrade which i paid for - maybe its my fault for not reading the fine print for the but in my experience systems rarely reduce in features they increase !! so its not what i was expecting but i will take it on the chin !!

Great idea happy to be involved
