Developer 4.2.3 Purplicious Customers are unable to leave a listing unfinished and return later to complete it. It appears the modify feature isn't working properly. Thank you for your help. Thanks, Karen
Unless I am misunderstanding you (which I may be), this is working as it should. If the seller hasn't completed a listing to begin with, than they can't "modify" it. In other words, there isn't a listing until they have made one (completed it), therefore you can't modify something that doesn't exist. On the bright side, there is an available module that will send an email to the seller asking them to complete their listing and allows them to do so. Stop Incomplete Listings. I do NOT know if this has been updated by the developer for compatibility with the latest version 4.2.3 though. The listing itself only lists versions 3.1 and 4.0. You can find this as well as all other services, modules, templates and offerings from the official third party offerings site, classifiedmods.com
Hi - I believe I understand. Is there a way for people to save as they go? What if they get all the way to the end and don't pay -- is it possible to get access to the data entry work you've already done and start from part way through the entry process without the module?
As standard NO - you can't save a listing that does not exist. There isn't state of work in progress that they can save and come back later without completing the checkout process. I would email the developer of the module and ask for more details. If it does what you need (not sure) then better to purchase it.
Still seems like there's a disconnect in the "modify" process When a user abandons a listing midway, the incomplete listing appears in his listing inventory [browse your listings] along with completed listings, and the options to modify or delete are active, giving the appearance at least that the entered text does exist and can be modified. "Browse your listings" shows the title for incomplete as well as complete listings. From a user point of view, this is confusing. And I also wonder if, since you can see the title in the "browse" feature, if the rest of the data is also stored somewhere and could actually be made visible for modification. Thanks. - Karen
The data is stored as an incomplete listing, you can only modify completed listings. To make changes to the the ad that was abandoned, you can click a link to finish the listing and use the breadcrumbs in there to go back and modify the ad.
I see your point if someone leaves the process completely. It would seem like a good feature request for a future release of 68C that you can come back to complete listing as you can in a blog for example with a post. Even if there was a save button or something like that. However, it is not the functionality at present. Still it would be useful when the script is used for various other purposes - i.e you are entering lots of ads but you are wiating for additional info to finish them etc.
Very useful feedback, thank you John, can you please elaborate on your feedback "you can click a link to finish the listing and use the breadcrumbs in there to go back and modify the ad" -- what link? where? And, SJ, please consider this a request! Because I am not a developer, I don't understand the process. But is this something that could be developed as a module or added by a developer within our current version? Perhaps it's because of the way we use 68Class, which is as a directory rather than a classified ad listing site, so people may have a slightly different approach to entering data -- they want it "just right" and will come back and tweak and modify. Thanks. - Karen
The pont is if you are talking about a temporary type save - going back along the breadcrumb in the checkout process or are you talking about being able to log off and come back in a couple of weeks? For my money the requirement is likely to be much more useful and generally applicable if an advert can be saved half way though and then the person can come back later having logged out to finish it.
RIght - I think both are useful. People want to tweak what they have when they preview it, which they can do already. But I agree that the most valuable would be the ability to log out an return at a later date and sill be able to view and modify what you had entered.
In the checkout process, there are breadcrumbs, provided you customers don't attempt to go back and change the category, they should be able to edit the details of the listing. Step 3 is where the listing data is actually saved to the db, but isn't accessible outside the checkout process until its completed. Now, if you create a listing and abandon it after step 3 is submitted, you can find these in your user area via browse listings. These will have a button that says "Make Payment". If you click this it will take you back to the checkout process, where you can click the breadcrumb links to go back and edit the listing details. You can always edit the template to clarify this process. Maybe add in a sentence *Make Payment * You can edit your listing in this process or etc. or you can change the button text to display "Complete Listing".
