There is of course twitter but tumblr.com is pretty good with much nicer templates and a much more intuitive interface. Given how quickly microblogs get indexed by search engines and how ubiquitous they are becoming there is a good opportuity use them. Here is an example of putting the latest classifieds listings via iframe directly into a post using the latest listings module. Not flash but straight to the point: Houses for sale in France
Very nice David. If anyone is interested I have also successfully included my 68C ads with a Joomla/Jomsocial site that provides social networking for my local area (Facebook signup too). It's almost finished, I'll post a link when it's done. Anything to drive traffic to the main classifieds site.
I haven't released it into the wild yet. Let me tidy it up and I'll post a link for critical review . . .
Any news on this Michael? Meanwhile I found a very nice blogging platform where you can easily export your listings (posterous spaces) to most useful social networks - Properties In France - give us an FB LIKE please . It is even better than tumblr and what is really great about it is that as soon as you have your properties in a posterous microblog you can feed them to facebook, twitter and a whole range of other platforms at a click of a button - too many to mention. It is almost idiot proof. I actually believe the two most important things to do in the future with classifieds sites is to make sure 1. It is really SEO friendly (no small undertaking). 2. It can export data to the most important social networking platforms.
Apologies for the extended absence, 'stuff' happens. The site I referred to is at Welcome to mkmoo I'm still developing this further and will post a more useful write up when appropriate. Feel free to give it a whirl though . . .
Nice - are you offering any bespoke advertising on it or your classifieds site yet - I am looking to get people out of MK over here.
I'm using twitterfeed to feed Ads to both Twitter and Facebook. It's picking up on the 68C RSS feed. Have the feed set to featured Ads only as they're paid-for Ads. Works perfectly. Only issue I found was the Facebook thumbnail was picking up a template graphic rather than any of the thumbnails, but I've now got that set to use a standard site logo graphic. Also put Facebook "like" and Twitter "tweet" buttons on each Ad so sellers can further promote their Ads themselves.
Not sure that you'd get much response at the moment - although interest in MK Classifieds is building By all means send me an advertising graphic and link, I'll be happy to include them gratis. There'll be no stats until I sort out OpenX for MKC and reporting for Joomla. If it works for you we can sort something out but take 2012 as free. Incidentally, I'm using mod68ads, a commercial Joomla module to display my MKC ads but the developer seems to have abandoned it and it is no longer available. Although it works faultlessly on the latest version of Joomla 1.5 I have not tested it on J2.5. With a view on longer term compatibility I'll be testing your External Listing Module built into a Joomla custom html module over the weekend. I can't foresee any problems but I'll let you know how it goes. Michael
Merci dear Michael. I will send them now. Look me up on Google circles too. I am thinking of using it to communicate with a select group about SEO on classifieds sites. Propeties For Sale In France - Google+ Really you should join Google+ if you haven't and get some of the markup of your pages changed to be compliant with schema.org . It is the future and it will help local classifieds businesses a lot. Start with getting publisher and author tag connected to your site and in reverse (use the google snippets tester tool for verification). Helps Google to understand your site and promote it to people in your area using local business tags etc. It is a bit complex at first but not impossible to convert a whole site. I have done it recently and it has made a huge difference to its rankings. The first step is a case of proving to Google, Yahoo and Bing etc that it really is your site.
