Has 68classifieds got this ability or has anyone done this?

  1. Hi all,

I am still on the look out for the best classifieds script for me. But the issue I am faced with is that the site I will be making is not just a standard classifieds site. It is intended for people to sell items, as well as ask for (or seek) and also SWAP stuff.

Now I have been doing a lot of digging and although I have found plenty of Swapping / Barter websites out there I have only ever found 1 script which offer this functionality (and this alone) and not very well might I add. So to give you an idea of what im looking for,

I am looking for a 68classifieds script with the ability to do something like this website also SwapHog - Safest way to Swap Online

I have to admit I am at my wits end as I cannot locate anything to achieve this .

Additionally, I noticed that Eric had a business store style addon at one point, which seems to have been discontinued as it is no longer on his website. Is it still available or not, as it would be nice to give local businesses the ability to have a business front with their logo and their items etc.

    Many thanks.

That site was made with 68 classifieds so it can be done.

  4. Hi Guys,

John many thanks for your post. I have yet to find out what they all are, but above was mentioned the swap site is based on 68classifieds, so how does this work as the demo certainly did not show this, and there are no addons or mods enabling this?

Ideally, having both run side by side, would be the best option for me. I am currently really looking at 68classifieds as well as a joomla alternative as ideally id love to have a solution fully integrated into joomla, but I know 68classifieds does not offer this
  5. Hi again Guys,

I thought whilst waiting for an answer in a sense to my question above, I would ask another

In this thread a person was asking about an integration module for vbulletin
    http://www.68classifieds.com/forums/modules-plugins-modifications/9900-vbulletin-module.html

Now I have looked and looked, but this thing does not seem to exist anymore? What I was hoping to do was force registration using 68c, which syncs with vbulletin, and then have a bridge running from vb to joomla giving me in essence what I was after. A single login lol.

Could anyone help, or better yet, could anyone create a username and password sync bridge between 68c and joomla?

Another question I have is that back in april this year people were asking for a facebook connect login. All that this thread came to really was the users being pointed to facebook to develop it themselves, which doesnt help me as I am not a very php minded person. Has anyone got something like this?

    Many thanks.

The demo didnt show it because its not built in functionality. I doubt you are going to find anyone here besides the owner of the swap site who knows how it works. I cant tell from looking at his sight how he handles the "swap" payment.
  7. Hi Lhotch,

To be fair im not all to interested in any swap payment handling . Realistically, what im after is that users themselves sort the exchange out, as no payment should be made.

The idea being is that as well as list an item up for sale, they could check a box asking them if they are open to swaps (details of which should be included in the listing).

Another user should then be able to click a button "Proposing a swap" which shows what has been offered. So as an example
    Seller A (has items)
    Item 1
    Item 2
    Item 3
    Item 4

    Seller B (has items)
    Item 5
    Item 6

Now seller B might see item 3, clicks "Propose a Swap" and then is taken to a screen showing like a category listing of his own items. He then could place a check in one, or both (or if he had more items then more) of his items which he isprepared to swap for that Item 3 from Seller A.

Once confirmed seller A gets a notification goes to see his Swap Exchange page and can view the items offered, and gets a run down of what has been proposed. Ultimately he then would have 2 buttons, "Accept", "Decline". If seller A clicks on either accept or Decline he then is taken to a textarea (if Accept the title would be special instructions, or if Decline then the title would be please give a reason). The textarea would ideally only be a required field if declined because there is nothing worse for seller B than not to know why the offer was declined.

A little indicator (like Erics rating) would be nice also under each users name to indicate how many successful swaps they have been involved in which also goes towards showing their reliability and trustworthieness.

On the same token, it is currently perfectly possible to post WANTED ads on 68c, but people offering the item would either call them or send them a PM saying ive got an item look. Would it be possible to create a small mod to include a button called "Offer Item" which in a sense works slightly similar to the sap idea above, but allows the person offering to offer their listed item with a said price, and the person seeking could then either accept or decline again?

Many thanks for this guys, It is something I would really love to see to come into fruition, but I lack the know how on it all.
I mean something ive been searching for frantically is a way to simply bridge the username, password etc fields from joomla to 68c, and have found nada. Infact any kind of bridge or integration for anything between 68c and anything else seems to have evaporated??

Again, many thanks. I am looking at moving forward with a purchase asap, but at present its a case of which ones right for me lol. Then off course its the "How much would this extra modification cost me?" that comes into play because until I have all this sorted, up and running I cannot guage its effectiveness and potential, so could be making a loss maker lol.

    Kind regards.
  8. I forgot to say,

The payment handling, is as the system currently does it. Pay for featured etc. Although I would be looking at possibly having the subscription mod which is available as id like to have a scaling subscription structure. EG
Free account - Limited text, pics, no featured etc
Casual Seller - Better word count, slightly increased pics per ad, no featured etc
Regular Seller - High Word count, plenty of pics, url, video placement
Serious seller - all the above, plus a shop front (Erics script? ) and highlighted ad's .

Then off course featured ads etc would be sold as one time upgrades to maximise

    Many thanks again.

I think you're making it much more complicated than it needs to be IMO. In addition, your assuming that the person contacting the ad poster also has items on the site and those would be the only things that they could/would offer without any consideration as to how those listings would then be handled to boot if they did agree to swap them.

Why not simply just create two extra fields:
Willing to swap: No/Yes (default is No) [Required field, drop down]
Swap items considered: A text area that the poster can enter items that he/she would consider for a swap

Then there's nothing else that needs to be done. If someone likes the item, they simply contact the poster just like normal and work out whatever they are going to work out. Simple.
  10. Hi Mike,

Perhaps it is a case of making it a bit too complex .

I do take on board your point of assuming that a user has some items on the site. And perhaps this is my nieve way of thinking that by doing it this way it would attract more users as they would put their items on the site to then offer the swap?

On the same token it could deter people I will concede to this.

Anyway, so just to make things that little bit easier then a user wants to offer a swap and they click on the contact seller link.
They get the bog standard normal message screen open up with the subject line and then write their message out. My fear would be how would users locate the items without jumping through a series of links and hoops.

Would it be possible to duplicate and install a secondary PM module which allows the propose to easily include direct links to their posted ads? (But then thinking about it, the anti spam etc would kick in and stop this from happening so im in a no go position right there again).

I will admit that I would love to see my thought come to life at some point, but perhaps putting that part on hold and releasing it in the fuure as an upgrade/update to the site.
Which does make me wonder, Eric is working on another project at present (another classifieds script). The official word is that 68c and this other one will run side by side, but considering 68c is now 10 years old, what is the likelyhood that 68c will be dropped in favour of this other one once it has been released fully and passed its beta testing.

I ask as I intend to obviously make an investment and I see little point in investing in 68c if it will be dropped, as support ultimately would be dropped also.

Lastly Mike, im still trying to get an idea of this shared login thing between 68c, Joomla etc. I know 3 years ago Eric mentioned it was on his to do list, but again this never went ahead for whatever reason. But I cannot find the 3 bridges that did exist. phpBB, SMF and vBulletin. These seem to have vanished also? What would it take/cost to get a bridge made for joomla ? Im only interested in the First, Last names, username, email and password being synced really.

    Many thanks.
