It is my understanding that to obtain a high ranking on search engines you need to have many links to your site. If this is true what is the best way to obtain links to my site? I am open to suggestions on creating more traffic. I am currently spending alot on adwords.

However the real prize are links from other sites which are already considered well by the search engines and they are also on topic.
