I couldn't find an appropriate forum to post this. So, posting here. I have been using 68C for more than a year and it has helped my site to become very successful. Since my site is growing, I also kind of expect to see new features introduced in 68C releases. But in the past few releases we have not seen new features added. Sometime back, user feedback was taken for new services and I think none of them have been delivered yet. 68C developers may have decided to keep this as a plain classified script (and it is the best at that). But since most classifieds sites are evolving into more than just plain classified sites, including mine, I would like to have an idea of the roadmap for 68C... and what kind of timescales. I think with few additional features 68C can become much better... some features I highlight are storefront, use of extra fields to refine searches, auction/buy now, etc. Hope 68C developers can share their views/plans.
I can't really share a lot of details but we are hard at work creating new things. Just not a point where we can share any public information yet. One thing we will not be implementing any time in the near future is any type of auction or buy now system. If you wouldn't mind sharing your ideas on a store front I would love to hear them.
Eric.. thanks for the quick response. I have mailed you a screen shot of a typical storefront in my mind. One more think to highlight... relationship between countries and states... states displayed depends on country selected.
Yeah, we really need some type of general roadmap. For my own wants and needs, the script has barely progressed in the 4 years that I have been using it. I moved to version 4 in the belief that we could control the number of steps in the checkout (based on things discussed in this forum), and then I discovered it was actually worse than version 3 (one extra step), so I went back to 3.1. I can't complain about my mistake there, as I should have been more diligent in verifying that it had what I wanted, but I will state that this is a well-written and well-designed script that from my perspective has seen little improvement in the past several years. That is just my perspective based on my own uses, but it is still pretty disappointing, as I am not using the software in some arcane fashion. I know you're working on that particular feature I mentioned above, but will it be version 4.2? version 5? version 6? It would really help if you gave some type of ball park estimate for any particular feature, like "expect this in version 4.5, or possibly v 5. Code is a little tricky on this one, so it may take somewhat longer to implement than I expect..." etc, etc. Or however you want to write it.
Have you seen the quick checkout module from templatecodes? It works on the default template, though it does require php5 and the latest 68C version. You can reduce it to a single page, and skip several steps depending on your needs. 68 Classifieds Quick Checkout Module
