Default home page content change

I'm sorry if I'm asking basic questions here. I have read the stickies and searched extensively, but couldn't find an answer to my problem.

I want to change the color, font and a few other basic changes on the content are of the home page. I tried the page editor, but this is too basic. Essentially I can just change bold, italic, etc.

I want to use different font sizes and fonts, color and use bullet points.

I have tried to paste html code, but after saving the code will show in the content area, but not the desired change.

Is it possible to change it. I don't want to use an image in order to get my desired look. Any ideas?

Thanks

The font, color etc is largely in the style sheet for the template your using. Other changes need to be made in the templates themselves.

Thanks for your help. The only code I found on the style.css sheet in regards to the content area is as follows:

/* Content
* Main content area
*/
#content{
padding-left: 15px;
}
#content th a:link, #content th a:visited {
color: #FFF;
text-decoration: none;
}
#content th a:hover {
color: #FFF;
text-decoration: underline;
}

I don't see any reference in the home.tpl file

Do I need to add code to the css style sheet? I have limited html understanding. I can copy code and insert/delete stuff, but can't write it from scratch.

I just want to do some basic changes to the appearance of the welcome message.

The current CSS implementation is global across the entire site. If you want to make changes to just one template I suggest you do so in that template. Copy the applicable CSS from the style.css tied to the template you're using and paste at the top of the template you wish to change, then make your changes there. This isn't the cleanest route to take, but probably the easiest since you're a beginner.
