Default web design tutorial

Hello, I was reading the web design tutorial on how to make 68 classifeds the way you want it to look like. But since I have version 4, would the tutorial, which is based on version 3.1 I believe, still work even with a different version. And also is the tutorial any good? I want to make my own theme from scratch (add in my own images, change the colors, basically make a completely different style then the default web template) and I was wondering if this tutorial covers that.

Thanks for your help,
Papermom

Hi,

There have been a few changes to the templates from v3.1 but really everything should still pertain and be revelant.

Of course if you get stuck or need help we are here.

Ok now I need some help. I have a look for my website already made, so I skipped the Photoshop tutorial since I already had a website template already made and went straight into the coding stuff. Well I followed the tutorial step by step and uploaded my version of layout.tpl.php along with my own style sheet that I made, yet when I change my template to the one that I made none of my revisions show up. And the source code isn't what I typed. I've added my layout.tpl.php file to this post, see if you can find the problems for I'm extremely new to 68 classifeds software.

Thank you in advance,
Papermom

In v4 we changed the template names to end in .tpl

So I think if you would change the name from layout.tpl.php to layout.tpl it should work.

To be honest I am not sure what you have done.

Can you submit a ticket with your ftp details and a link to this thread and I will see if I can help you out.

Papermom,
I noticed your template links to a css style sheet located at http://www.lctrader.com/style/style.css

But if you go there, there is no style sheet uploaded at that url.

You may want to use the style sheet located at templates/default/css/style.css (if you're using the default folder)

and just add your own stuff in there. There are a lot of different styles in the default style sheet that work around the whole site itself. If you don't use it you'll see a lot of tables that just don't look right, etc.

My advice is if you screw up the script or templates really bad, you can always reupload the setup folder and start fresh again.

After several minutes of fixing the noob problems you guys found out for me (lol) my theme is up and running. But now another problem...the member account links (my account, ad a classified, etc) show up once you go to my web site, but once you click a link they disappear until you login like normal. How do I get them to not show up at all until someone logs in.
