Default Dynamic Images

Im just throwing this question out and I fully imagine that it might not be possible but...

Is it at all possible to display dynamic images on a webpage.

Firstly, by dynamic I dont mean as in the filename or size, url or anything like that.

What I mean is, say we have an icon eg a telephone, all one color. White phone on a black background. Is it in anyway possible with modern technology to make the background and the image change colors?

I am sure something like this is possible. You may need to look into the gd library for php.

The first thing that comes to mind is an animated .gif, like the one with the flying folders (fileCopy.gif) in 68C. I changed the background in it to black for my site.

SVG (scaleable vector graphics) should be able to do that too. I remember about 6 years ago, it seemed like web graphics were going that way. I've heard practically nothing about it lately. SVG uses code (maybe XML) to create vector graphics in stead of raster (pixel maps). It's cool messing with code and watching the graphic change. You can edit the graphic from the front or back (drawing or code).

The other thing I think of is Flash, using ActionScript. But, then your viewers need the Flash plugin. It gives you the most powerful authoring tools, though. Has anyone put Flash into a 68C site, I wonder?

It sounds like an animated gif is the best solution for what you want. Look at this: http://www.mammothgoods.com/images/fileCopy.gif

Hi midi, thanks for the information but this isnt what I am wanting to do.

To be more specific, I have made my 68 css stylesheet dynamic where it draws the values of all the colors from a database.

EG .table1 {background: $color1; border: $color2; color: $color3} (if only it were this simple!!)

This gives me the freedom to design a new color scheme in seconds and gives me a choice of millions of colors to work with.

What I want to do is to have the ability to change simple 2 color images(as icons).

eg: image-background:$color4; image-foreground:$color5.

I know this cant be done with css, its just a code example.

Just a quick note to make sure you are aware.

Navigation systems like this make it impossible for search engines to crawl your site.

I'm not a computer pro (mechanic), but it seems like XML and SVG might be the place to look.

I've never used navigation like this on a web site. I make those for CD-ROM projects, mostly just for fun.
