Quick question about Sigma

Hi, just a quick and probably stupid question.

I'm now using the Sigma templates and on the footer by default there are several icons linking to Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc.

What is the purpose of this? What's the advantage of having them there?

Those are links to share the site on your social networks, like FaceBook, Twitter, etc. When a visitor clicks on one of those links, then they can post the site on their wall/tweet/etc. to that service. "Viral Marketing" as they call it, as nothing is a better promoter than someone posting about your site in their social network to their friends on the same social network.
