This is not a bug but by design due to the limitations of our old friend internet explorer. Subcategories will in most cases push the drop down out too far and break the layout. This is however just one of the reasons why we introduced the advanced search back into the accordion and on the top menu. Its a no win solution. You can have subcategories dropping down but they will for most people break the layout. We prefer to keep the quick search to the basics, - text box, category and price. If we do it the other way, you will then say, my layout is broken in internet explorer. This is a limitation of what may would consider to still be the most popular browser.

Hi, thanks!

Actually it does show subs in some pages like the usercheckout.php , & it doesn't seem to break layout in my IE 8, probably because I removed the 20 charachtres limitation? Or is the problem with older IE versions?

An upgrade was issued a long time ago. In older versions of IE (6 & 7), if subcategories had too many characters in them, the layout would break horribly. If yours are small in terms of the number of characters then you may get away with it. IE8 is better but still not good compared to FF and Safari 4.
