Default Meta Description on new pages

Hi,

I hope this is a simpler solution to what i have been trailing through in this forum

How do i get the system to use the meta description for new pages (as written when creating a page in the 'description' field) instead of it using the default site description?

Thanks

Gary

Make sure you have this in the head of your layout template:
Code:
<meta name="Description" content="{$sitedescription}" />

Thanks Eric,

I have that in the layout.tpl file.
What I need though is to get the description that is written for new pages to be the meta description and not the default site description.

use smartys DEBUG to se the vars available when viewing an admin created "page". Then add logic around the meta site description in layout.tpl to check the current template in use if its the template used for an extra page then substitute the site description for the variable you found in the page template using debug.

OK Scratch that....i was looking at the default template...when I looked at the Nustyle template being used it didn't have the code you mentioned earlier.
I stuck it in and its working...sorry, I misunderstood how these default and actual template files work.

Thanks

On the 'home' page it isn't showing the description I entered into the page details. Its showing the default site description as set in the main settings.
How do i get it to show my own page description and not the default one?

Without meaning to be critical; if you search the forum you will see how to start giving individual pages or indeed any page, title tags and meta descriptions by applying tests in your layout.tpl file. The question has been asked numerous times before. I just searched for title tags and got 4 pages of results. Many of the threads accurately cover this topic of assigning title tags and meta information.

Unless you know what you are doing it is not a trivial thing to implement though - you need knowledge of smarty and a good grasp of how to use the debug feature to see what variables are available.

thanks James....I had read all the things i could find about tags and sadly its my lack of knowledge of smarty and debug that is the drawback (hence this post). Many apologies though, I do try and get the info before i post but sometimes you're talking a foreign language to me
