depends on where oin the page and which pages you want the banners displayed.

You do NOT place the banner invocation code in the php files you place it in the template files.

There are a couple stickies in the forum on understanding the template layout, you would be well served spending some time reading them so you understand how the templates relate to each other. It will save you a lot of frustration in the future.

Trust me i am reading everything I find. Its quite a learning curve as this system works very differently from joomla (something I use daily).

I am simpley trying to add in ad zones at the bottom and in the side columns.

If the 4 adspaces that you have in your layout.tpl are not sufficient:

The quickest and simplest way (to keep styling) is to make a new adspace box in the layout.tpl file. You can copy the code from the templatezones module which controls the existing four spaces and put it into the layout.tpl file directly. You then fill this new adspace with your adverts whatever they may be. You will not however be able to move these new adspaces around in the module control panel as you can the others. You would need to do some quite complicated coding to achieve that. You will need to do this for each template that you use.

If the 4 spaces are sufficient then the instructions cover how you add your code into them. They will automatically show in all templates.
