question about ad posting

hello,

i received my first 2 ad postings. it is from someone in slovenia and they posted 2 of their villas.

my question is this:

when this person posted their 2 ads i actually didn't have a category for slovenia. however, their ads still went through and were processed but are not actually inside of a category.

the ads show up on my 'holiday property for sale' page underneath all the categories. as you can see at the link below.

Holiday Cottages in Europe & the U.K.

i have since added slovenia as a category.

so, is this how it works when someone posts and ad for a category that does not exist?

any suggestions or advice or is this how it works?

People are show a list of categories to chose from and they can only place an ad in a category that YOU have created and set to allow ads.

If you dont want people to be able to place an ad in a category that has children categories then set it so the parent category doesnt allow ads.

From the looks of things, you have it set so visitors can place ads in the categopry "Holiday Property For Sale".

ok, that makes sense. just something i must of overlooked. thanks so much for the fast response!!!

oh, one more question. if i change that in the admin section it won't delete the ad that is already there will it?

No it want delete a listing already placed.

hello lhotch,

i did what you said, or i think i did anyway....and it didn't work for me.

i went into admin and in the manage categories section i have 2 parent (top categories): holiday properties for rent and holiday properties for sale. then inside of each of these parent (top) categories i have a list of european countries.

i set both of these parent categories to not allow ads and then all the countries disappeared and i had to re-enter them.

now the ad that the person from slovenia placed are still in the dashboard but are not showing up on my website anymore except in new listings.

what am i doing wrong?

is it the way i set up my categories in 'manage categories'?

i don't want to erase all the country names again. it was tedious duplicating them twice.

please help or advise, much appreciated!!!

hello again,

i just found how to edit the ads that were posted and i put them in the new slovenia category i made and now they are showing up again in the proper places. whew!

but, i guess i still have to fix the main problem which is that i have it set up to allow ads to be placed in the parent cat's....holiday properties for sale and holiday properties for rent, so that people can only place ads in the country categories within these 2 parent or top cat's. right?

or maybe just make sure every country in europe is listed?

or can i set it up so ad posters have to choose a sub category or their ad won't go thru?

Help, when submitting a listing the text entered into the text box is instantly deleted by the program. This happens to everyone so it is not a local problem.

Has anyone had that happen? Any know fixes?

Thats likely due to you having your package set to allow 0 characters for that field.
