Adding a "Product Directory" & "Find a Dealer" system

I want to add a product directory to my site and thought of adding a whole new "secondary" 68c coded system inside a "product_directory" folder using a totally separate database, admin, etc. And maybe another 68c system for a "Find a Dealer" function in a "dealer" folder with its own admin, search, etc..

I would be the only one adding the listings to the Directory and Dealer sections of the website. I figure it would in no way communicate with the main classified functions and user index of my site, other than links in the layout header and footer.

Any ideas, would these added databases and admins potentially interfere with my "primary" classified ads 68c coded section?

If the secondary classified site was installed in a subdirectory and in a ifferent database they would be totally separate.

The question though is how do you intend on displaying ads from the directory classifieds in your regular classifieds?

Why dont you just create a new category (or parent cat with subcats) on your existing site to display your directory? Just dont assign those cats to any of your listing packages and no one will be able to place ads in them.

You can then use the viewlisting custom template mod to display those ads in a special template.
