Default Special characters error in new listings

I have new listings and recently viewed listings on the side columns of my website. If a user has typed any special character in the title of their ad, the html equivelant comes up in the link.

Title says: For Sale Big & Small

New/Recently viewed link says: For Sale Big & Small

Help! This is on my front page!

I'm having the same problem. Here's an example of a problem I'm having -

If the user's listing title is:

Green's Automotive, the listing turns out as:

Green/'s Automotive

There are other weird things that it can't display correctly.

I have found a temporary fix. It seems that if I edit the ad manually in the admin, I can take out the & amp; code and replace it with an & and it will show up on the site.

I have not tried this for apostrophes but it might work.

cwp Crystal posted that this was affecting the New/Recently viewed which is a smarty plugin. Is that the same case for you?

It affects the entire listing in general.

It'll show the "/" in the title on the new listings page, the showlistings page and the viewlistings page.

Going into admin and taking out the "/" works, but if the user re-edits the listing the / will come back, and if they keep editing the listing, another / appears. Soon enough you'll have a title like:

Green/////'s Automotive

Hi,

Can you create a blank php file and include this:
PHP Code:
<?php
echo get_magic_quotes_gpc();
?>

Then post the results?

I just tested my site and I have no problem with apostrophes (') just amps (&). The & code comes up in admin, and also in the listing title which I didn't notice before. One ad had this: &. I wonder if that is the same as cwp's problem where they edited the ad and it added on?

Edit: I do see the problem with apostrophes but only in admin. If I add "something's here" it comes up as "something/'s here". This only appears in the admin, it does not affect my listings on the front end.
