New version upgrade..

Question New version upgrade..

Okay I am a rookie...

Do I simply overwrite the category.php file?

Will this change my current category system?

Please advise.

That should be a minimum of what you do. Ideally you should upload the whole new download and run the setup script. Keep in mind that if you modified your templates or core scripts you will need to make sure you redo the changes to the new ones.

So I would lose the categories?

What about the current ads?

Can't you simply save the files and copy over after the install so you don't have to start over with the categories??

Nevertheless, I'll need support on this...what are my options?

no. you are uploading new scripts. All your sites settings, ads, categories etc are stored in the database.

Are we starting all over again, after we install the new version?

What about the current ads, if categories need to be setup again?

No, you are not starting over.

Your ads are stored in the mysql database. These won't be overwritten. Don't overwrite any files which you have modified. Backup your website BEFORE you make the changes in case you over write something you didn't intend to.
