Advanced parent/child list

I'm having a particularly dumb morning today!

I'm trying to set up the parent/child fields as per the V4 manual and I seem to be making a total hash of it.
I have 3 top categories, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha.
I have created 3 child drop down lists, Honda models, Suzuki models, Yamaha models.
I then created the parent drop down list, Make.
I then entered the sub ID's for each.

When I go to "search", I select my top cat, Honda which then pops a field called "Make" into the search. This has the 3 child categories, Honda models, Suzuki models, Yamaha models.
Selecting any of those then shows anotherdrop-down box with all the models.

I thought that it would go more like:
Click category, select Honda, drop-down box to select model.

I seem to have some extra steps in there that aren't required.

Hi,

It appears you have it set up correctly however you are using Honda, Suzuki, etc as categories as well. So in that case I would probably either just use select list for models or change your categories to something like: Sport Bike, Motocross, ATV, Touring, etc.
