What version of 68 Classifieds are you running?
Example: V4.1.6 Designer

Exploring this program and wonder what steps I have to take for security sake.
Is it sufficient to chmod the folders and a file (classifieds.php) before/after installation or is there more to take care of.
And when I try to edit a page with the pageeditor from controlpanel it sometimes ask for setting the particlar file to 777. But when I finish adding/changing the file do I have to reset the original permissions ?

Yes you can change the classifieds file to 755 after installation. The template files have to be chmod to 777 if you want to use the admin editor. You can always just edit the files with a text editor though.
