Default Improve back links

Hi,
I have been told that the more backlinks the better for PR. Wheather this is true or not i cant see the harm, I have found several sites where you can submit your link to 1,000's of blogs and directories, Does anyone think its worth it? or have any good sites to recomend?
Any other ideas to improve my search engine rank would be great.
Cheers

My personal feelings are that today there are so many search engines that relhying on your search rank is wasted time and energy. SE's always change and you have competition always trying to one up you so its like shovelling water to stay high in the list of SE results.

10 years ago people used the inernet as a main means of getting people to their site and in turn business but now days thats simply not the case. SE ranking now days is just one small peice of the marketing puzzle.

Relying on search engines for the majority of you marketing is futile. If your not going to stay on the first page may as well not bother at all. Searches return so many results and people are too lazy to look for for what they want.

Interesting comments Larry

Even the so call SEO experts over look the very basics in SEO.

I would always say buy the SEO mod for you 68 site and use use integrated blogger or maffos news mod and add stuff every other day making sure you place links to your relevant cats.

Content is king, just for the different keywords weights the pages will carry.

Google loves new content and if it sees that you had no new content you may slip down in the results.

I use other free ads site that let you link back to your listings pages, this works great for my listing ads.

I also call other ads up telling the about my site and giving them a 100% offer via coupon, a lot of them do end up listing as well.

Hard work, good honest content and you will start to get great results in the search engines

Thanks for the advice. Do you think the blog and article submiters are a waste of time and money?

Over the years people have come up with more and more sophisticaqted means of building link farms and making money from online ads. They are even going so far as to copy complete sites that have high ranking and dropiing ads in it. Because of this the SE algorythms are constantly changing.

Then, as I mentioned you continually have your competition trying to leap frog ahead of you in the SE results.

So the wuestion is, when is enough enough? Ive seen people on these forums go absolutely hog wild with SE placement and making their site SE friendly and at the end of the day hits that are SE generated just trickle in. Meanwhile there are other 68C sites that dont even use the SEO mod and they are packed with ads.

So my point is, if you just a weekend warrior looking to create a site, spend a ton of time on SE placement and hope to hit it big, I think you are going to be in for some dissapointment. Your time is better spent taking some marketing classes.

By SEO Mod do you mean Search Engine Friendly URL's v2.0? Is it easy to intergrate if you already have ads? And would it make that much of a differance?
Cheers

I myself believe in creating a site with fresh content, great keywords, descriptions, titles, outward and inward bound links. If you do this you will be found on the search engines. Maybe not number one but you will up there for lots and lots of search phrases and your site will be found.

The most important thing I think is to localise your site. Make sure your site can be found if somebody is searching for 'your product, location'. Although I dont know the stats, I myself use a location if Im looking for something such as a hotel, property, cars.

I also agree with Larry that SEO is only a part of your marketing.

DO NOT SUBMIT to these link farms. You will be punished and perhaps even dropped by some search engines.
