ZIP mod is installed and working. Here's my next question:

I'd like to allow people to filter their browsing, not just search, by region (basically ZIP + predefined radius). I know I can put links on the front page for cities and link to something like

/searchresults.php?zipCode=22302&miles=20

and get a listing of everything in the Washington, D.C. region (at least 20 miles around Alexandria, VA, but you get the idea).

But how can I carry that through the browsing of listings - basically once someone clicks on a link for a region, they are then browsing the categories limited to listings in that region?

Good question and I believe it is possible. You should be able to use something like:
category.php?type=1&zipCode=22302&miles=20

Hmm. That works at the lowest level of sub-categories
/category.php?type=16&sec=20&zipCode=22302&miles=20

But at the higher level
category.php?type=16&zipCode=22302&miles=20
it's still showing the full number of items regardless of ZIP.

And the filtering isn't "sticky" through the browsing process. I'd need some sort of variable to automatically add in the &zipCode=22302&miles=20 as the user browsed within that region.

I think it would be a useful feature (obviously, since I'm asking about it).

Any thoughts here. This would be a useful feature (for me at least).

I purchased this mod, but now that I understand how it works (I think) I don't think it will work in my situation. 9 times out of 10, the items listed on my site are not in the same zip code as the registered user that listed the item. I guess I was thinking there would be a zip code field in the actual listing itself. Therefore, unless this can search against an extra field, I don't think it will work for me - just want to confirm that though before I scrap it , thanks !!!

e1m2j, did you ever get this to work. I am looking for the same solution.

Can you update this mod to use the 68 classifieds table prefix? Currently it doesn't use the table prefix and it's a little confusing if you have the classifieds sharing a database with something else.

You could manually do this by changing the table name then opening the mod_user.php file and changing the queries to ".PREFIX."zipcodes.

But I will see about changing this for future versions.
