Default Yahoo index and Site Explorer - 08-30-2006, 03:05 PM

Does anybody have a problem with Yahoo this days?
All my sites disappeared from Yahoo search results.
I cant even Authenticate my sites for Yahoo Site Explorer.
After their updates in June, it seems like Yahoo crawler cant properly read the files on the server.

Thanks,
Sergey

Turn off session.use_trans_sid. Having it set to on means that if someone hits one of your pages and a cookie cant be set the session ID will be appended to the URL. Since a spider wont accept cookies everytime it hits your site it will have a different session ID appended to a page which in turn makes the page look like a different URL when its not. I dont know the specifics of yahoo's spider but it wouldnt surprise me if they have it set to not crawl sites that use trans_id since all it does it clutter up their search engines.

If you don't have access to the php settings you can add this to your .htaccess:

<IfModule mod_php4.c>
php_flag session.use_trans_sid off
</IfModule>

However, those who disallow cookies won't be able to authenticate.

Thank you guys, I will try this. However I think that this is some other problem that may not connected with 68C.

I did some checking and I have some clients with the sites that are not using any scripts, just simple html or in some cases htm (made by FrontPage). All of them dropped from Yahoo as well. The only what is connect my site and my clients sites that they are sitting on the same server. I asked hosting company and they said that they have no problem with Yahoo! Slurp to crawl the server. I also saw from my logs that Yahoo! Slurp is there. So the only what is left is Yahoo itself. But Yahoo is not answering any technical questions. Dont really know what to do now.

Thanks,
Sergey

Now with Yahoo it is something different. I already did this and they confirm it is not a penalty.
I guess it is some technical issue between Yahoo bot and my server, after Yahoo changed algorithm in June.
But both Yahoo and my host said that is no problem from their sides.

Thanks,
Sergey
