Hi Larry and friends, it's been a week and google has accepted my site map and downloaded it about 8 times that i know of. Problem is non of my listings are getting spidered but my other sitemap "top level" seems to be accepting. Google says the 68 sitemap sitemap is ok. Any ideas? Larry, i've been keeping an eye on your site,ap status too with no change in the google results:Sitemap Results

Any ideas?

I think it may take a while for the listings and additional items to be included in the directory.

For my site its kind of a mess because I was using my sitemap prior to turning off trans.sessionid. This means I have a lot stuff that doesnt exist because the session id isnt valid. Last week when I looked googled had 990 pages from my site spidered but I dont have that many pages. Today when I checked they are down to 598 results, many of which are still junk links due to session ID. Slowly but surely google does seem to be cleaning up their links to my site.

Geesh I don't know, since I submitted the new php site map everyone of my url's have been dropped from Google and under status Google says: No pages from your site are currently included in Google's index.

I originally had a hard coded version and that was spidered and indexed in about a week. I'm going to try putting the php output into an XML file and submitting that. I'll keep ya updated.

If your site was sending a phpsession id and you have since turned it off google will in essence need to redo everything. Even if your hard coded sitemap pointed to all of you pages when google hits your site it would have appended a session id to the URL. Of course session ID are the next best thing to unique so in essence every time google goes to a site that has transparent session ID's set and looks at the same page it will have a different URL because the session id is tagged onto the end.

Perhaps look over the dynamic script and change the importance of each section, at least until your indexed.

Larry,

iv used the sitemap you provided in this string, made the changes to suit ver 3.1 and am hoping you could help with what to do next..

the page looks like this: http://www.useddirtbikes.com.au/sitemap.php

does this look correct? it looks to me that this site map is strictly for search engines and not to make it easier to navigate the site by people. all i want to do is help my page ranking

what is the next step, is it to submit it to google or do i need to make changes.

thanks
Paul

Paul,

Google has their own sitemap generator. Although I was already getting good listings/rankings on Google without ever submitting my site, once I downloaded, generated my sitemap.xml and submitted it to Google, they almost tripled the daily hits from their bot on my site and doubled my listings in their site.

google

I use awstats. It's the most thorough that I've seen. It gives you the search keywords AND search phrases that were used to get to your site. It gives you the number of external links from each referrer as well. (I like the fact that it even tells you when they got their from an email link) It also gives you an estimate of how many of your visitors added you to their bookmarks (sweet!)
