Hi there,
I am having a problem with my newly installed wamp package. I have recently installed Apache, PHP and MySQL on my Windows Vista operating system and Apache and PHP seems to work fine but I am having problem installing or running MySQL in my DOS Window. As far as I understand the problem is rooted in the fact that when I purchased my computer at Future Shop, it was a floor model that had been installed for a Future Shop account already and they didn't tell me that. When I purchased it they forgot to reformat the hard drive for me. When got home and wanted to start up my computer I run into the problem of needing a password for the Admin user account that belonged to Future Shop. At the end I managed to overwrite the password with a program that was able to get into Windows Vista in DOS and managed to get into the account and create a new one for myself and delete the old account from Windows Vista. I had to do this because I had to use the computer for work purposes and I couldn't expect Future Shop to be very quick on fixing my problem, plus they were unable to provide me with a password. Anyway, the password was hard to unlock so I had to delete the old password completely. Now, I am trying to learn PHP and all the things that come with it so I don't feel like a complete idiot every time somebody talks about it but when I tried to run the install of mysql in a DOS Window, it says this: it is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file... Now, in DOS Window it says: C:\USERS\ADMINI~1\ and this must be the old account for Future Shop because I changed the user name in Windows Vista when I broke inside of it. Now, is there any possibility to delete this account from DOS as well like I did in Windows? I tried to delete this account and it asked me if I really want to delete it, I said yes, nothing happened. I assume this account is protected by some password or something so it makes it hard to even just delete it. But I need to get inside my user account where I can find mysql to install it...Sorry for the long explanation but it is a problem I am unsure of how to solve and I would really like to get on learning but this really keeps me back. Any suggestions from anyone out there? Thanks in advance. Last edited by bongos : 07-24-2007 at 03:15 AM. |

I have never ran into any issues like that before and I honestly have no idea where you would even start.
![]() I would like to suggest xampp from apachefriends. Normally it will install everything you need and not require manual editing. However with the issues described above you may have to get that fixed first.

For all you know there is a trojan or other "administrative application" on that system and there is no way I would run it without formatting the rive and restoring the OS from recovery media.
I would start the system up, go into the BIOS and do a low level disk format, then reinstall the OS and make sure you have a clean start.
