hello all,
my first post. i have gone through all of the posts related to the differences between the developer and designer version and i am still a bit cloudy about the precise differences. i know HTML and i have dreamweaver. i have built quite a few HTML/graphics based sites. but, i am unsure of exactly what knowledge i need to put together a functioning classified's site. it is beyond anything i have attempted in the past. i have registered 2 domains and i want to get them up and running soon. i have searched high and low for a classified's company i like and from what i see i am going to buy off of you. you look like the best around!!! my 2 sites will be cottage rental sites where cottage owners can post details about their holiday cottages. i want my site to be able to do exactly what this site can do Canadian Cottage Holidays - Cottage rental and resort listings across Canada my question is: would my knowledge of HTML be enough to be able to make my 2 sites function in the same way as Canadian Cottage Holidays - Cottage rental and resort listings across Canada and which do you recommend i purchase??? the developer version or the designer version??? would you recommend i get you to install it??? or with my knowledge of HTML would i be able to install it myself??? thank-you for your time, cottage_rentals cottagesineurope.com canadianholidaycottages.com Last edited by cottage_rentals; 09-16-2008 at 01:12 PM. |

I dont know everything those sites you listed do so saying you want yours to do exactly the same thing is something I cant answer.
What I suggest you do is spend some time reading the manul for 68C at this link. User Manuals [68 Classifieds] then play around withing the 68C admin at their demo site. Then you can decide if the site does everything you want/need. If you have created web sites then your html skills should be enough to allow you to modify the looks of 68Cto suit your needs. If you find that 68C doesnt do everything you want or the way you want then using smarty or php may be required. The designer edition gives you full access to the template files which for the most part control the layout and looks of the site. The developer edition will give you access to the php code so you can make changes there.

thank you Lhotch,
i have gone thru the admin and installation manuals and i believe i will be able to do everything that they talk about. they are very well written and easy to understand. i guess my confusion lies in the sentence...'the developer edition will give you access to the php code so you can make changes there...' under what circumstances would someone running a classified's site need to alter the php files? |

If they want to modify current database queries to collect and in turn display data that is not currently toggleable from admin etc.
Keep in mind you can upgrade to the developer edition at a later time if you find you need it.
