Default login with mailadres

Hi

I had a look at the demo site. It seems a user has to register first and has to choose a username. In my experience users forget their usernames. A mailaddress is unique by itself. Does '68' have an option to have a more implicit registration with only a mailaddress ?

Thank you

Not to my knowledge but I see no reason why you could not achieve this with a small customization to copy the email address into the username field.

Or just change the form so instead of username it says e-mail address.

Easiest way but then it appears the person has to type an email address in 3 times one after the other on the form. Doesn't look nice. It would look better if the email address were just fed into the username and a note put to say that the username for the account is the email address.

Thank you for the fast replies !

In the Netherlands we have a website called marktplaats.nl

That website has a very low entry way of posting classifieds. At some point during the post they ask for the mail address. Nothing else. The mail address is verified by mail though. A password is only optional, otherwise all verification / communication is by mail.

It is sais that this easy access is an essential part of its success (its by far the biggest in the Netherlands; bought by e-bay for 100 of millions...)

I would like the same way of posting / registering (maybe the rest will follow ;-)

Using a mailaddress as username is easy to implement then ? (For somebody with the knowledge)

Thank you

That method sounds like how craigslist works but that is not how 68C works. You would have to totally redo the payment and checkout system to have it all done by e-mail.

As Larry has pointed out before in a copuple of threads, you need to have some hurdles or people will just post rubbish and your site will get spammed. Like the person who wanted anonymous posting. A username and password in my experience is essential. However, making the email address into the username is a reasonable idea. It would not be that difficult to do that. There a few changes you may need to make where email addresses and usernames are displayed together but that is far from difficult to do.

A password is not essential to prevent spam: another option is to send a confirmation link to the user. Does 68C do that ? Would be essential for verifying the mail address.

Sounds acceptable. But can it be done in an upgrade-proof way ? In one or more extra modules ? I do not know the technical setup of 68C, but from all the modules that have been build by 3th parties I guess its very customizable.

Yes - you can set the system to send a confirmation email address and you can set manual admin approval too.
