Default SSL Certificate

Been investigating SSL certificates and reading online about them, is it necessary to use a SSL certificate if using paypal for transactions? Are they more oriented for collecting credit card information and payments other than paypal. Login information wouldn't justify using a SSL certificate or would it?

Also, will dreamweaver edit and display tpl files? Or what program would you recommend to edit tpl files?

Thank you,
Kevin

When using paypal as a payment method, the user gets redirected to paypals site so at that point encryption is taking place for their transaction. SSL on your site will only protect their login details.

Yes, you can use dreakweaver to edit the template files but im not sure how dreamweaver will handle the smarty variables.

wysiwig editors seem to work well for initial mockup but after that I find that a PHP IDE works best, especially if it can edit remote files like dreamweaver can.

One of the things to consider is that with SSL you will almost certainly need a fixed IP address for your server and that will cost more as well as obtaining a certificate. As Larry says, once an advertiser has entered paypal they are about as secure as you are going to get. Paypal are big and they regularly track down fraudsters. They have the means and the need to do so in order to protect their business. There are several alternatives to using paypal but unless you are going to have relatively high volume and significant sums of money passing into your account it is hard to find one that is economic. You need to be generating very good revenue to justify them.

Dreamweaver should be fine for editing .tpl files. Remember to keep the preferences in the editor set to utf-8.
