This is tricky because each site considers this differently. I have seen some sites who have a free categories and paid categories. Then they would manually approve listings so they can double check they have placed their listing in the correct location. Then if not send them an email telling them they must purchase before their listing will appear.

Of course this is only one idea and I am sure others have done it differently. I guess it really depends on what you have in mind.

Is this using 68 Classifieds? I didn't see the feature where you can make some categories free (like general for sale, help wanted, etc) and some categories paid (like real estate, etc).

Can you please point this out?

When you create packages you also select what categories the package can place an ad in and set the price for the ad package. All you have to do is create a package with a cost of zero and allow its use only in the non commercial categories.

What Lhotch said.

In addition, you may want to consider also adding your "terms" in your terms page. That way if you delete a commercial ad, you are working within your own terms as they have to agree to the terms during registration.

On my site, I allow free ads for all categories but a few. The free ads are text only ads. The free text ad "package" is applied to all categories except for Vehicles and Real Estate. I then also allow upgraded packages for all to use, such as single photo with text, 3 photo with text, etc... All of those ads are for 7 days.

On my paid packages for Vehicles and Real Estate I also extend the length of time for the ad to give additional value.

In my terms of use, I specifically state that "Free ads are for personal (non-commercial) use only." In another section, I state that we reserve the right to delete any listing that violates our terms of use, including but not limited to....blah, blah, blah.
