Default Video Uploads

In the demo I see you can allow people to upload files, however this seems like it still needs work and a bit primitive (the rest looked REALLY great). It would be great if we could charge extra for people uploading videos and had control over it (file size, etc). If there is a way to do that now please let me know.

Thanks

Hope this helps but it doesn't answer you question directly.

On one of our sites, we were going to have an 'upload video' option. I made the modifications to the template pages to accommodate this. The drawback was that users would need to convert the video file fomat to .flv before uploading the video.

The other consideration was bandwidth - uploading big files hoggs server resources and although we have plenty of bandwidth for now, to increase this later will add futher costs to the site.

We didn't consider charging clients to include video because there are so many free video sharing sites on the web.

In the end, we decided to allow users to add the 'embed' code for their video hosted by eg: YouTube, Google Video, PhotoBucket, etc

You can see the results by going to www.auscity.com and taking the snack_2_tv link. The site is still under development but you will get an idea of how video can be presented.

To have videos displayed in viewlisting.tpl.php, all we did was add an 'extra field' (multiline text field) called 'Video Embed Code' to take the code. Simple but effecitive I think.

The costs in running this site will be negligable - income will come from Google AdSense and Featured Listings option.

Even if we could charge small fee for linking to a youtube video that would be great. I would be willing to pay for this if someone can work on it.

I hope the guys running 68 don't consider this Spam, but FWIW we run a video hosting service that allows you to start your own YouTube for free off our servers and under your own sub-domain (www.vidiac.com). the Good thing about it is that the embed players will be your web site's watermark rather than YouTube's or the like, and the video portal is under your domain and skinable. The Bad thing is (and I am struggling with this right now myself) that we're still working on a User Bridge to allow single sign on between the Vidiac video service and other community databases like 68Classifieds.

Anyhow I'm trying to figure out the same thing as you about how to present a video for classifieds. For Example...

http://videos.streetfire.net
http://classifieds.streetfire.net
http://forums.streetfire.net

Right now I have the user database bridged between the forums and classifieds and we are working on a user bridge between the Vidiac.com video system and vBulletin so a user would have single sign on for all *.streetfire.net services.

The reason for the bridge too is to insure that the user listing the Ad is the same person that uploaded the video, helping to prevent fraud. I'm a little worried about doing it the way described above, because of the fraud issue....maybe I'm too cautious

Update: I decided "What the Heck?" and did it the way Chaslie mentioned above. Worked just fine. I made a Multiline Text Field and the default value I enclosed instructions in HTML comments <!-- like this --> so if the Classified poster does not have a video to embed they can just leave it blank and the instructions comment themselves out and do not appear.

Example: http://classifieds.streetfire.net/vi...ng.php?view=88

Odd thing though I noticed that I cannot put HTML in the description but I can place HTML text in categories I add. As a future feature request, it would be neat if we could specify whether new categories do or do not allow HTML. It would also be cool to be able to modify the default Categories like Price and Description the same way as extra Categories.

I went to your eShopper site and I like the way you have the photos on the ad. (When you click on a thumbnail it gets bigger inside the page instead of popping up). Is this a mod that you offer or is this an option on the script?

Thanks

This is a free mod for anyone with a registered 'developer' version of the 68C script.

Exclamation Security Risk

Isn't this a major vulnerability that embedded code is allowed in any multi line text code? A virus could be embedded into the page or really anything??
