Many thanks Eric, Larry and James for the responses.
@ Eric, I do know what you mean about the releasing of updates etc. I think this is why I like modular systems such as etomite, joomla, modx to some degree. Its a case of the updated files can be easily uploaded and unpacked which then overwrite the affected files without anything else being affected. I think that this is not always 100% for
68c (i may be wrong in my assumption there) due to some changes being made to the core files by users with developer editions instead of just using modules and plugins.
I guess what I personally like to see (and this is 1 persons opinion if it counted at all out of the many) a new feature if easy enough to implement released on its own making it an optional update, thus keeping recomended updates (security) and feature improvements seperate (and if a user decides they didnt want to install the feature improvement its then automatically included in the security update?). Ok I am fussy
@ Larry, I admit that I may not understand the kind of terminology as you, but I do strive to think of what would be easier for future development for anyone I would choose to use. I guess though that this then would wholly depend on that persons skill set also.
but with regards to your paragraph

68C is a long way from withstanding further improvements but as I said above, its hard to create a 1 size fits all product. The addition of one feature may make the implementation of another difficult and when that happens which should development pursue if at all?

I thought this was the intention of having modules and the ability of installing modules? So that these modules act with the system but independantly of the system also and so meaning that 2 modules together could not conflict with each other? Or did I misunderstand the module ability within
68c?
@ Seymour, Thank you. I have to admit I like the iclass look and ajax feel, but in terms of templating it I wouldnt have a clue. Not even for
68c lol as there is no access to these files unless you pay to see what they are like

.
Anyway, on the whole thanks to all 3 of you for helping me clear this up.
Eric, a final note really, is there any indicator where the progress is up to on the paypal pro payment module? I would see this as a must have to make it a smoother transaction process (as someone already mentioned).
Additionally, the pages within the admin area allow you to make further pages on the website, but err how could I make a page link. So I create a page which is basically a link to another website, another page in a subcategory or wherever I wish really? I would only assume that each one of these currently needs to be hardcoded in?
Manyt hanks,
Interested John.
