This is just an idea but you could setup a membership that only promotes them to a new usergroup. Then in the template put an if statement to check if they are a member of that group and if so allow ads to be placed.

Basically hide the place an ad link unless they are logged in and a member of that group.

Hi

Thanks to everyone for all the help, when i secure this job i will most certainly be calling all the modders.

The viewing of the listings as far as i am aware is open for any user.
It is just the advertiser who is required to register and place ads.

Maffo, i do like the idea of the free ads when registering, I will certainly mention that if the client insists on the registration of each advertiser.

Chaslie, I have a feature set up on a site I built for a government agency. Its more of a directory site but its built using 68 3.1dev.

A requirement from them was that everyone who registers gets a free ad so I made a customisation and a simple include function that counts the number of ads a registered user has. If they have non then the option of placing a free ad is available, if the total is more than one then the option is unavailable. I created a package in admin for free ads and slightly edited step 2 of the user checkout so that this package only appears if the visitor has no other ads on the site.

What Barry could do is pretty much the same thing yet kinda in reverse.

I would create a membership, your client can even include one or two free adverts within this membership. If a user has no membership then the only option is the registration package. Once the membership is purchased then that option is replaced with normal advert packages.

Has your client hinted/mentioned that only Registered users will be able to 'view listings' at the site ..... or can unregistered users see all listings? The reason for this question is that this will determine the process you will need to modify.

At present, sounds like the process of registering needs to be connected to the checkout process. This is a mod that would need to be developed.

Then once registered, the registed user can add their listings and pay for each in the normal way.

OK, Thanks and now let me try...

His intention is that all users wanting to place their adverts on his site will need to pay a subscription fee or registration before before they can place any adverts on the site.

Once registered the users will still be required to pay for the ads...
Don't ask..I know make the users pay twice its crazy, but i am sure there is a method to his madness...
  1. Find website
  2. Pay registration fee(I am guessing annual)
  3. Then be able to proceed with a paid advert in the classifieds

Thats about it...in that aspect of the site

Regards
Barry

Can you explain this please? Please provide all the details so that we can help you find the best solution.

You create a membership in the admin area and was originally created so a visitor could buy multiple adverts as a complete package.

All you would need to do is create a membership where the visitor gets no adverts.

You would probably need a simple customisation where the user must own a membership before they can place any more ads and this is very easy to do.

Hi

Can someone tell me how this feature will work.
I have a client that may be interested in something like this(68 Classifieds), that is why all the questions.
And the client would like for registered advertisers to pay a membership fee...not just a fee to advertise their service or product.

Thanks
Barry
