Default Image URL and Smarty Templates

Good Morning,
I am considering changing a couple of things on my site to attract a wider audience. To do this, I will need to change my header image. I have become familiar with assigning url's to images and placing them into html web pages, but, my 68C site image url's are with smarty templates. I didn't build my site (built by jueven14) and I am not familiar with smarty. Can someone tell me exactly what I need to do to change this image?

I will also need to point or add another domain to the site. I will need assistance on that also.

Any takers?

Placing image links ina smarty template isnt much different than placing one in an html page. Smarty variable are simply surounded by curly braces and aside from that it is just a standard looking html page.

If all you want to do is change the header image there really isnt even a need to change the URL, just save your new image to your server with the same name as the current header and it willbe used in place of existing one. If you want to keep old header in tact make sure to save a copy of it or rename it prior to putting new image in place.

As for having another domain point to your site, thats something you would do through your domain registrar. They usually have a control panel and you can configure where your domain name points and set up multiple domain names pointing to the same web space.

Default Thanks a million

I have my domains registered with GoDaddy and there is a form to place the nameservers for my site. Do you know where I can find those?

Most hosting services have help pages with all the details for clients including name servers etc. I would start the search there.

Unhappy UH OH! It didn't work.

O.K. This didn't work for me at all.

Keep in mind, my site was built by AusCity, and I don't have any of the images anywhere in my possession, other than my template editor.
I could be way off base, but I keep thinking I should have to be able to get into Smarty to change these images. Am I way off base? I feel I am missing a peice of the puzzle.

The only way I have of publishing images is thru msn, and the template editor will not accept these no matter what, when or where.

The images are on your web server, so in a sense they are in your posession. Im surprised you have not backed your site up. What happens if you host blows up and tells you they lost all of your site? Beleive me there are horror stories abound about how hosts claim to do bakups but when push comes to shove and data is lost they cant recover it.

What template editor are you referring to? If the one inside 68C all it does is allow you to change the content of the template in terms of the text in it. In other words its just like using microsoft word, you open a letter, make changes and save it. If you want to change an image you can edit the template and tell it to use a different image by editing the URL for the image and changing the name so it points to the image you would like to use.

Keep in mind that the image, in order for it to be used has to be on your webserver. Many web hosting packages have tools via their web control panel interface to upload files from your desktop computer to the server. Otherwise you can download and use an FTP client (File transfer protocol) like filezilla and use that to move files from your PC to your server.

Images are not stored in the pages themselves, you use text, in the form of a URL within a smarty/html document to tell the web server where the image is and when the data is sent to a browser the images location is also sent and the image is downloaded and displayed in the web page where and how the html indicates.

I can vouch for this statement.

Default Please Help Me, Guys!

O.K.
I admit up front that I am still pretty much in the dark when it comes this stuff, so pleeaassse be patient with me and see if I can get this stuffed into my "blonde" head.

First of all, I had the understanding that my site was backed up. I would have been in a complete panic if I had known different. I guess myself and my builder got our wires crossed. What do I do? (in detailed english, please).

As far as the images go, I don't have a clue what you are explaining to me, about them being on my web server. I DO understand about the template editor only being customizable with text and the impage URL being pasted into the template.

Let me tell you what I have been doing so maybe we can better understand each other. I have been uploading images to the web (web server?) thru windows xp "Publish this document to the web" which goes into an msn document file and applies a url to the image. On other projects I am doing, I can go to the msn document file (which is online) and copy and paste the image url into the webpage I am creating. Presto, there is my image. BUT, when I do that with the 68C template editor, the image is not on my site. Now, it's more than obvious to me that this is not the correct way to do this with 68C. Now that you know exactly what I am doing (wrong), maybe you can explain the right way. I know and appreciate the fact that you have been trying to explain, but I think you forget that I don't have a clue.

Kateedyd,

In order for any of us to be able to help you, we need to know some basic details of how your website is being served.

My first question would be, "Have you tried contacting juven14 who setup and customized your site?" If it were me, that's where I would start.

If you don't have a way to contact him or can't then let's do this:
What is the url to your site. http:// ???
Do you know who your web host is? (Who do you pay to have your website working every month/quarter/year)

Knowing this will at least be a start for us to be able to assist you.

-Mike

Exclamation You Bet.

Yes, I have tried to email juven14 for the past week and I am not getting an answer. Maybe he changed his email address or is still really busy in school. I tried once before about a month ago when I first had this idea, with the same result.

My URL is http://speedpony.com

I have the 68C hosted version.

Let me tell you what I am wanting to do. My site is speed and racehorse classifieds. I want to expand to all horse breeds and disciplines, so I really need to change the images in my header from racehorses to a more generic horse image. Everything else will stay the same.

Can you tell me what I need to do to back up my site?
