Default having a text price field

Hi all

i've just set up my v4.1.6 Developer pages.

I want to change the data type of the 'price' field from decimal to text, and then let people write things like "offers", "500" "swap for a red one" rather than a enter a fixed price in a fixed currency.

Then remove the price field in the search.

What else will I have to do? Has anyone else done this? I'm happy to muddle through rewriting bits as I go, but has anyone already done this? I think it should be quite simple if you know where all the relevant snippets are.

Thanks

Why not just globally hide the price field and instead create a text input extra field?

Hi Eric, thanks for your reply

Can you turn price off completely and stop it being shown? So far i've managed to stop a user having to provide it, yet it is still listed as 0.00 in quite a few places. Can it be even more turned off, or do I have to edit some templates?

thanks

Yes you can globally turn it off:
Checkout Settings - 68 Classifieds

Admin -> settings -> checkout settings:
Allow Price Field - Choose 'Yes' if you would like the member to be able to specify a price for his/her ad's item.

Default Hidden price field

I have turned off the the price field everywhere, but when I use the "Featured" option the ad comes up on the first page with price=0,00

What can I do to turn price completely off ?

That display of featured listings is done by a plugin. You can alter theline of smarty code in the template calling the plugin to tell it not to show the price as outlined in the documentation.

What template are you using because if you are not using the default plugin, you need to edit the language file for the horizontal listings to put a blank in for 0.00. This will also resolve 0.00 on viewlisting and showlisting pages too.

As an aside, just so you do not forget, a side effect of turning pricing off is you will lose search and sort capability on price.
