How to change a smarty variable

Hi,

I am using the news script and i want to change a variable
I have this variable

{$next}

which is

mod=faq&page=HERETHENEXTPAGE

But i want to delete the

mod=faq&page=

part and only have the page number, how can i change that variable?

You would have to use mod_rewrite to change the mod=faq because that is required by the script to tell it which modules to load.
