Question Getting Google To Re-Index A Page After Title Change?

I have been tinkering with my keywords, descriptions and most importantly, page titles for my ads. I notice that google still shows the old page title in the index and does not seem to be showing the new title.

How much of a page has to change for Google to update it's index with a new page title?

Any ideas gurus?

I haven't been able to establish any pattern with Google as far as page content change. If it thinks a small change is more relevant, it will update, yet a major change of fluff content can do nothing. In my experience it can go as much as 30 days before G picks up a title change alone, or with little page change.

Only Google can tell you this for sure. It depends from how often Google spidering your site and when they going to update the index.

Changing the titles it a pretty major changes from Google point of view. They probably have to make sure that your site still on the same subject. So it may take some time. You may also notice (or may not) some drops in serps or possible that some will completely disappear. Dont panic and dont change them back. If your titles stay on the same subject as before, ranking usually is coming back.

Is there not some method to request pages removed or to be reindexed. I seem to remember see something like this in the past.

Yes, it is. But if you request to remove them it will take min. 6 month to reindex them back. I guess Google put the notice about it.

Hi Alisa,
Except <meta name="robots" content="index, follow"> all others meta tags that you mentioned are completely useless and ignored by Google.

hmmm. then what is the purpose of Meta tags???

I had my site on google within a couple days of being up on the server...
I searched and granted most of the listings came up under the 68 classified forum...but our website is there...and I didn't fill out any forms (like the old way of submitting urls to search engines)...

I'm not arguing...just need clarification...

Alisa

The real joy is how to get your ads out of the supplemental index... I have scripted the heck out of my page titles, keywords and page descriptions to make them unique to each page's data and most of my ads are still in the supplemental index.

I suppose eventually they will get around to re-visiting the ads and noticing my work but I have not way to speed this up. I have followed just about every SEO guideline I could find to make the keywords, title and description match each page but am still not getting out of the supplemental indices.

I look at pages from craigslist and other systems and their ads don't seem to be junked in the supps.

Frustrating.
